Macedon Ranges Vineyard Cottage

Pet-friendly
Be as warm as toast in your own cottage with a wood heater, sun soaked rooms overlooking a vineyard and only 15 minutes from Lancefield in the Macedon Ranges. Taste our wines and soak up the peace all with 1.15hrs from Melbourne.

Feel like your really away from it all as you drive up a valley to "The Mooring". Be surrounded by hills that make you want to take long walks to soak up the peace and quiet. Pass by the "Wilimee Mooring" the sacred stone axe quarry of the Wurundjeri people.

The cottage is fully equipped with your own kitchen, dining nook, bathroom with clawfoot bath/shower, waterless eco toilet and bedroom with a wood heater to keep you warm. The bedroom has a queen bed with beautiful linen sheets and a feather doona whilst the kitchen has sun soaked bench seats from which you can pass the day reading and looking at the bush.

At night sit in the courtyard and whilst the bbq cooks your dinner sit by the outdoor firepit and star gaze or cosy up in a wingback chair beside the fire. The cottage is very warm if you keep the fire going as it has double glazed windows but we recommend for extra comfort bring your slippers as the floors can be cold.

It accommodates children in a double junior bunk (160x 70cm) and pets too.
Provisions include tea, local ground coffee, Olive Oil and balsamic vinegar. The bathroom has shampoo, conditioner and soap. Owners are 600m from cottage in separate house and can provide a wine tasting by appointment. Owner Ben Ranken is an accomplished winemaker with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Fiano available to purchase. Wifi is not available and mobile phone coverage is particular to certain spots in the cottage! Some classic dvds for the tv are available too.

Please ask if you wish to walk through the vineyard due to disease risk to the vines. We can also guide you to some mown walks through our property. Or simple sit in the hammock, try your hand at yabbying (ask us for nets) or have a row in the dam with our tinny. Note the dam is close to the cottage so be aware of this when staying with small children. Likewise the shed is out of bounds due to machinery and equipment.

Lancefield is 15 minutes away with a great Pub option, Brewery and lovely woodfired Pizza. There is also a great bakery and bookshop. Heading Kilmore way you must visit "The Meatroom" with its deli style shop and baked goods. Or go further to Hanging rock for a hike. Farmers market are booming in this region with Lancefield, Woodend, Kyneton and Riddells creek on a saturday each month.

Dogs are welcome however we don't have an enclosed yard. We do have a enclosed dog kennel with small run. We have one jack russell dog and four ducks that roam however they can be locked up.

The cottage was great! Comfy bed and lounge, made extra cosy with the fireplace (even on very cold nights). Nice kitchen and dining area with great views. Everything needed for a nice quiet weekend away. And Sally is a helpful and responsive host. Highly recommend!

We loved our stay at this cosy, warm cottage. The bath, fireplace and sun-filled dining area made it the perfect restful weekend away. And Lotta the dog was the best little bush walk guide.

It’s the perfect getaway for summer, winter — or anything in between! We went over a 35-degree long weekend, and with just a fan it kept the entire cottage cool. We loved all the decor and its perfect location, close to Mt Macedon and plenty of hiking trails.

Hanging Rock

Hanging Rock is actually a former volcano that stands a pretty impressive 718m above sea level, so there are certainly some killer views from the top. The site itself took us about 40 mins to drive to from the property. The climb to the top is fairly easy and mostly paved.
Hike at Hanging Rock

Hike At Hanging Rock

Explore the region and discover why it was made famous by the classic Australian novel and film 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' by Joan Lindsay. The mysterious story of the Valentine's Day disappearance of a group of schoolgirls and their teacher while visiting Hanging Rock in 1901. The legend of the story lingers and creates an eerie atmosphere on the rock.

The small volcano was formed by an upheaval of lava millions of years ago. Discover the massive granite rocks, caves, tunnels and overhanging boulders. Climb to the summit and take in the stunning views of farmland, the forests of Macedon and the Cobaw ranges.
