FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS …
We’ve gotten to know the Macedon Ranges over the years on our weekend visits, completely fallen in love with it and recently made the move from Geelong to Mount Macedon.
There truly is nothing like mountain fresh air, great quality food, coffee and wine, a garden to visit, endless hiking trails and quiet, calm spaces, to relax and recharge in.
We lovingly established Mistwood for others to use as a warm, comfortable and welcoming base from which to explore this beautiful region and/or simply have a momentary break from the mad rush of life.
We hope you enjoy your stay.
HOUSE RULES / NOTES
Smoking is completely forbidden anywhere on the property.
No parties or events are permitted.
No additional guests to that specified at the time of booking are permitted to stay in the property without the express permission of the owners. Additional guests will incur additional nightly fees.
House-trained pets are permitted in the house; however, they must be leashed outside due to native wildlife (and the property is unfenced).
Noise must be kept to a minimum between 10 pm and 8 am. Although Mistwood is quite secluded, we ask that you please respect our neighbours and the surrounding environment.
Please don’t water or feed any of the property’s indoor plants or outdoor animals.
Guests will be fully liable for the cost of any items (including artwork) stolen or damaged from the property and/or for any cleaning or repair fees incurred by the owner should any theft and/or damage occur. We have a detailed property inventory and will be immediately aware of anything taken or damaged following a guest’s stay.
PLEASE NOTE: Mistwood is located in dense bushland, so you may see small black worms, insects and/or other wildlife nearby or even in the house during your stay, particularly during the weather extremes. We do our absolute best to maintain the highest degree of cleanliness possible, but occasionally the natural environment has other ideas.
Should any of the rules be breached at any time during a guest’s stay, the owner reserves the right to ask the guest to leave the property immediately.
Please leave Mistwood as you found it:
- Check to ensure you’ve packed all personal belongings
- Switch off all the lights and turn off the heating or aircon.
- Lock all the windows and doors.
- Place all used towels in the washing machine.
- Put used dishes in the dishwasher and turn it on.
- Empty the indoor bins into the relevant outdoor bins.
- Ensure there is no rubbish anywhere on the property grounds.
HEATING / AIR CONDITIONING
Mistwood is equipped with central heating/air con, which can be turned on/off via the wall-mounted remoted located near the dining table. Please kindly switch this off if you are planning to be out of the house for long periods.
There is also a wood-fired oven at the property that you are welcome to use. Please use the firestarters and the supplied kindling first, and then build up to using the larger pieces of redgum, which should stay alight for a good while. You only need 1 large piece of redgum in the fire at any time.
There is more firewood in the alcove near the carpark.
NETFLIX
Because of the remote location of Mistwood, we are unable to get clear and consistent free-to-air TV. That said, you will have access to a range of movies and shows on Netflix.
BLUETOOTH SPEAKER
So you can enjoy music during your stay, you’ll find a portable Bluetooth speaker (Wonderboom) located on the fireplace mantel. Simply turn Bluetooth on your phone, connect to ‘Wonderboom’ and you should then be able to stream music to this speaker. There is a recharge USB cord located in the kitchen drawers.
DISHWASHER
Dishwasher tablets are provided under the sink for you to use as necessary. The dishwasher is very straightforward to use.
OVEN / STOVE
The oven and stove at Mistwood are induction. Appropriate cookware has been provided for this.
INSIDE THE HOUSE
COFFEE / TEA / PROVISIONS
You’ll find coffee pods and freshly ground coffee, along with a selection of organic teas and instant coffee in the pantry. Please help yourself! A range of condiments and other pantry staples for your use. There should be milk and chilled water in the fridge for you on arrival, along with some delicious Castlemaine Muesli for your first-morning breakfast.
WASHING MACHINE / IRON
Feel free to use the washing machine if you need to.
There is laundry liquid provided in the cupboard under the laundry sink. An iron and ironing table is available in the laundry cupboard.
PORTACOT / HIGH CHAIR
There is a porta cot and high chair located in the walk-in robe in one of the bedrooms for your use if you need it.
BBQ / OUTDOOR HEATER
There is a small BBQ and outdoor heater on the rear of the deck, which you are welcome to use. Both are gas-bottled bases, so turn on the bottle before you turn on each appliance. Please kindly turn the gas off and clean the BBQ thoroughly once used.
RUBBISH
There is a rubbish and recycling bucket on the kitchen floor in front of the kitchen window. New rubbish bags are available in the cupboard under the kitchen sink.
Please ensure rubbish and recycling are disposed of at the end of your stay in the bins in the carpark. The red bin is for everyday items and the yellow is for recycling.

Absolutely loved this gem of a property, the baths at the rear were heaven, even in the rain. The property was beautifully fitted out with lots of little thoughtful additions, which meant you could just float in, get cosy and enjoy.

It was lovely waking up to a mist-filled forest and being greeted by the local sulphur-crested cockatoos. The outdoor baths are an absolute must.

What an incredible hidden gem. Secluded and peaceful, yet still close to local shops, a pub, and beautiful gardens. You truly feel unplugged from the world while soaking in the warm outdoor tub, surro...unded by the sound of birds singing. The views from the baths, deck, and house are absolutely outstanding.
Everything about the property is visually stunning and so thoughtfully designed, with beautiful attention to detail throughout. The house is immaculately kept and just so well considered in every way.
We were honestly blown away by how amazing and restorative this stay was — exactly what we needed.
Nicole is a fabulous host: friendly, welcoming, and incredibly attentive whenever we had questions.
10/10 for everything. Highly recommend.

The Homely Eclectic Pub
Homely and eclectic, the Mount Macedon hotel was one of our favourite visits. With in-house gin and tonics, a crackling fire and lovely staff, you’d be silly not to pop in. With hundreds of beer tap logos spread across the ceilings of the pub, it's safe to assume they've tried a few beers and know what they're talking about. We cosied up by the crackling fire with a few couple of glasses of wine to reflect and unwind from our busy day.
Mount Macedon And Hanging Rock
Explore the region and discover why it was made famous by the classic Australian novel and film 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' by Joan Lindsay. The mysterious story of the Valentine's Day disappearance of a group of schoolgirls and their teacher while visiting Hanging Rock in 1901. The legend of the story lingers and creates an eerie atmosphere on the rock.
The small volcano was formed by an upheaval of lava millions of years ago. Discover the massive granite rocks, caves, tunnels and overhanging boulders. Climb to the summit and take in the stunning views of farmland, the forests of Macedon and the Cobaw ranges.
Macedon Ranges Walking Trail
Take on part of the 30km circuit hike, which links the Camels Hump and Mount Towrong with the mountain villages of Mount Macedon and Macedon.

Mount Towrong Vineyard
Macedon Ranges is known for its wine and Mount Towrong Vineyard was one of our favourite winery stops. We enjoyed a wine tasting and learned about the architectural history from the owner himself, before sitting for some nibbles and a glass of the Lagrein 2019 while admiring the views. Helpful tip: Come hungry – the food looked absolutely delicious here.
Mount Macedon Memorial Cross
A picturesque cross can be found at this place, commemorating the ANZAC soldiers. There are also a couple of nice walks with a couple of lookouts to stop by.
Sanatorium Lake
On our way to Mistwood, our accommodation, we came across the Sanatorium lake sign. I had been here before but wanted to check it out again. This lake is so peaceful and quiet and it’s great for a lovely walk, horse-riding or a pic-nic. Sanatorium lake, just like all the places we visited around the Mt Macedon area, is a pet-friendly (on lead) option for people exploring with their dogs.
After a stroll around the lake, we finally checked in into our accommodation, Mistwood, just down the road from Sanatorium lake.

Anti Gravity Hill
One of Macedon Ranges best kept secrets. An outdoor optical illusion that needs to be seen to be believed.
