The Moonlit Cottage was a great cosy get away for my partner and I for 2 nights. Jacqueline was very communicative prior to arrival on instructions for access and some minor maintenance things.
The f...ire was made ready for us to start up and keep warm which was greatly appreciated and had the cabin toasty warm in under 30mins.
A decent 40minute drive from the nearest corner store, it's extremely remote (yay!) but still has access to
phone signal as we reached the site (however got patchy driving in the Otways).
Right amongst the wildlife, the Moonlit Cottage was nothing short of a humble woodland escape. Would definitely recommend for those wanting to switch off in comfort and warmth.

An inner city couple and a puppy cocker spaniel arrived in the cold and dark to the cutest cottage. Finding the key and opening the door revealed the oasis we would could call ours for two nights. Fir...st priority was starting the fire but no matter how many seasons of survivor consumed, nothing prepares you for the real thing - for most of the time we had to settle for the divine smell of charred eucalyptus from our failed attempts to create fire. Even with the supplied wood twigs and firelighters.
For his first trip to the country, the puppy had a ball and we remembered what it was like to make coffee throw on a coat and watch the day begin from the chairs on the porch. We also got to watch rosellas and blue wrens torment the puppy with their speed and ability to fly.
The cottage itself was clean, safe and perfectly isolated. With full amenities we could have pottered around without leaving the property but beach and scallop pies awaited investigation in Appollo Bay. Thank you Jacqueline, I really hope we get to visit again.

We spent two days at Moonlight Cottage and it was a genuinely beautiful experience. The place has a calm, almost magical atmosphere that makes it very easy to switch off and just enjoy the surrounding...s.
The setting is peaceful and surrounded by nature, which made simple things like morning coffee or an evening walk feel special. We particularly enjoyed exploring the nearby area, there are lovely spots for short walks and quiet moments, and it is perfect if you are looking to slow down and disconnect from busy daily life. Sunset was a highlight, with soft light across the landscape creating a really relaxing end to the day.
Overall, it was a memorable stay with a warm and tranquil vibe. I would definitely recommend Moonlight Cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful escape and a chance to recharge in nature.

Hi. My name is Jacqueline, the host The Cape Otway Homestead, The Guesthouse at COH, Koala Cottage, Stone Cottage and Camp CO. My husband and I stumbled across the homestead at the beginning of 2020 and decided to purchase it to bring it back to its former glory. We fell in love with the golden hour views, the way the Grampian stonework shines around the entire homestead and how magnificent the wildlife is on the 60 acres of national forest around the cabins. We think it’s a pretty magical spot.
We hope you enjoy it too.

Explore Aire River
The Aire River winds its way through wetlands and floodplains. It's an awesome little spot to launch a kayak or canoe, then spot endangered hooded plovers and graceful swans as they take flight.
Great Ocean Beach Walk
This scenic hike will take you along the cost of the great ocean road path. You will see stunning views of Aire Inlet, cliff faces, gnarled trees and secluded beaches.
The Mouth Where The River Meets The Sea
A 1.5km walk from the Tire River boat ramp to 'the mouth' where the river meets the sea. It's absolutely beautiful and we had the entire space to ourselves! We were lucky enough to make friends with some locals who had a boat to get us to the destination. We went skiing down the sand dunes on our boards and the view from above is breath taking. A full 360 of the River and the Ocean. Beautiful beach. Great swimming spot and lots of rock pools and scenery to see! Brave the walk. or go for a canoe! You won't be disappointed! We didn't get the chance to see the sunset this trip but it would be an A+ kinda experience!
Aire River Beach Drive
If you've brought your 4x4 you can explore the nearby Aire River tracks, which lead to some beautiful beaches. It gets boggy at the end, so take note: you may need to let the tyre pressure down, and a shovel may come in handy!

Manna Gum Woodland
We stopped near the Cape Otway Lighthouse to check out the weird contrasting landscape around us. Unfortunately these dead trees are due to rising Koala populations.
Go Chasing Waterfalls
This is a beautiful place to come and fill your energy cup up as you walk through a forest rich in life and colour, while also seeing a spectacular waterfall at the end.
