Hideaway Hills

Hidden away in the hills behind Apollo Bay, up a winding road just out of town, you'll find Hideway Cottage. A handcrafted mud brick cottage, perched up high amongst the Otway forest.

Surrounded by lush towering gums the cottage makes you feel like you're completely isolated from the outside world. Perfect for us to recharge and spend some time together amongst nature. We quickly lit the fire as the rain and wind battered outside. The cosiness of the lounge with fire roaring was just perfect to watch the storm through the windows. We attempted a game of chess together and listened to records from the generous selection of vinyl. A glass of wine by the fire and our night was complete.

The next day the weather broke and the sun shone albeit briefly. We had made the pizza dough that morning and pounced on the opportunity to fire up the pizza oven outside. We explored the property and enjoyed the views and birdlife that surrounded us. Our son played in the tree house and found the little fairy garden. Making the most of the weather we relaxed in the hammock on the verandah. The sun filtered through the cottage and felt almost Tuscanesque, whilst we basked in the warmth of the fire outside. With pizza in our bellies we retreated to our comfy beds inside.

We explored Apollo bay the next day and grabbed some seafood for lunch. Marriners lookout got our legs working and we meandered our way through the Otways for some adventure. Reluctantly we left our hidden cottage for the weekend, with new found skills and an appreciation of the quiet life and time spent together. Hideaway cottage is the answer to truly escaping the noise of modern life.

Fire up the pizza oven outside. Prep your pizza dough and enjoy some woodfire pizza. Start the fire early so the oven can heat up enough untill the bricks are white or "clear". There is instructions inside the cottage to help you along. Great fun for the whole family and tasty pizza as a reward.

Tranquil Lake at the end of a 30 minute walk through calming rainforest. Can be a bit wet but well worth the stroll.
