The name ‘Gunyah’ means ‘house/hut/shelter’ in the Birpai Aboriginal language. Our tiny house was built by Häuslein in Port Macquarie & boasts stunning solid timbers throughout. It is a sustainable, completely off grid stay, with a waterless no-smell composting toilet, a large deck area with outdoor setting, Ziggy BBQ and a reverse cycle A/C. It is set in the beautiful, rolling hills of the Far North Coast and is only a short drive from local townships, Byron Bay, Nimbin & local tourist attractions.
Kick back and relax in our 100% off grid tiny house while you take in the scenic views of Mt Nardi and lush local farmlands.
Modanville is home to the Birdwing butterfly and our farm is uniquely surrounded by nature including koalas, goannas, echidnas, wallabies, wedged tail eagles, and an array of birdlife and butterflies.
We have supplied the basics to make your stay comfortable including bed linen, towels, cutlery, crockery, glassware, cookware, BBQ utensils, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, salt and pepper. No microwave included however there is the option of the inside gas burners and Ziggy BBQ. Note- no freezer available.
Plus enjoy our sustainable features during your stay:
Beautifully soft 100% hemp bedlinen, 100% Australian wool quilts, Natural & nontoxic Koala Eco products and Australian made Sukin hair/body wash products.
Please note the tiny home does include 2x double beds and can accommodate up to 4 people however please be mindful this is a small space with limited storage.
Guest access:
You are welcome to explore our 70 acre farm, go for a walk, have a picnic but please be mindful you are on a farm and need to wear appropriate footwear as like any Australian bushland, there is potential for snakes and ticks especially in the Summer months.
Other things to note
- Unfortunately due to the current weather conditions, there are no fires to be lit. As we have lots of bush around the property we ask that no naked flames are to be made outside until fire warnings subside. Thank you for your understanding.
- Please also be aware we have electric fences in use on the property.

Staying at Hidden Gunya Getaway was our first tiny home experience, and we couldn't have asked for more: beautiful location, cute luxury cabin, friendly host and exciting adventures within minutes away. We will definitely come back.

Annies Country Bakery
On our last morning, at our host’s recommendation, we stopped at Annie’s Country Bakery—and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed delicious pastries while sitting at their tables overlooking the breathtaking landscape.
The Channon Craft Market
Held every second Sunday of the month, The Channon Craft Market is a bohemian gathering where we wandered from stall to stall, discovering handmade treasures crafted by local artisans.
Channon Markets
The Channon Craft Market is held on the second Sunday of every month from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. We made the mistake of arriving at 2:00 pm and an hour was nowhere enough time to browse the 100's of stalls. This is easily the best market we've ever been too, and every second stall had the most epic and unique handmade goods.
The Channon Tavern
Hungry after our adventures, we stopped at The Channon Tavern, where, to our surprise, we found an extensive menu. The meals were delicious, made with quality ingredients, and the old-time charm of the place transported us back in time.
Whian Whian
We trekked through lush forests to the hidden gem known as Whian Whian rock pools for a refreshing dip.
Whian Whian Waterfalls
A beautiful waterfall with many quiet and gorgeous pockets for swimming and basking on the rocks in the sunshine. The falls are just a 2min walk from the car parking area - highly recommend.
