This house was a bit disappointing. Very much style over substance. The house itself could be amazing, but because it’s run by an agency (people who haven’t stayed there) rather than an individual hos...t, it’s not very homely and missing some essentials (kitchenware is limited) and some things weren’t working. We were just about warm enough in July, and the garden was a bit depressing so I’d feel for anyone staying in warmer months.
We had a fantastic time in Castlemaine, the location is pretty good. We are familiar with the town and revisited the mill markets (must do ice cream), laundromat with free arcade games, Togg’s cafe (fantastic shop attached), excellent op shops and we got the steam train to Maldon for the day.

Toasties Beers At Love Shack
We sat in a booth admiring the cosy decor sipping on a couple of local brews. We only planned on staying for one, but the music was on point, the staff were so warm and friendly we ordered a couple more rounds and some cheese toasties. Safe to say I'm going to be dreaming about that mouth watering snack for some time to come.

This trail begins in Castlemaine and runs beside the Victorian Goldfields Tourist Train line to Maldon via Muckleford and is 18km long. The trail is mostly surrounded by open dry forest, with some views of rolling hills and farms.

Exploring Castlemaine
Renowned for its rich goldrush history, Castlemaine offered an awesome, eclectic mix of markets, cafes, arts and great food. We wandered through The Mill, looking at vintage wares, drinking delicious wine in the sun at Boomtown and stocking up on cheese and smoked meats.
