Additional Information

Things to do: there is a wide variety of activities and things to do in the Kaipara region, you can visit Port Albert or Minnesdale Chapel for a taste of local history. The Tapora Golf Club and Birds Beach are just down the road. If you’re after more adventure you can head out to the Sand Island, it’s just past the golf course with the entrance marked off Okahukura Road on the seaward side. Travel down the dirt track to the parking spot and walk across the estuary from there (low tide preferred) or take a 4WD out to the dunes. You can drive out to them but only drive around the south side as there are rare bird nesting grounds to the north. Atiu Creek Regional Park is about 15 mins up the road to Port Albert, and is a good spot for day walks, hiking or horse riding. We are also 40-50 mins drive from Mangawhai, Matakana and Omaha and 1 hour from Leigh for all sorts of day activities on offer.

We had such a lovely stay at The Hayloft. It’s a gorgeous place to switch off and properly relax.

A huge highlight for us was how dog friendly it is. Our girl could roam and explore freely, and it fe...lt really safe and peaceful. We didn’t have to worry about running into other dogs, which made the whole stay much more relaxing.

Waking up to the birdsong was such a bonus. We spent ages just bird watching from the deck - watching the pūtakitaki, kōtare, and pīwakawaka dancing around.

We also appreciated the thoughtful extras inside. There’s a fantastic selection of books and also some games provided. We took full advantage of the puzzles. We were actually gutted we didn’t bring our laptops, because there’s a very cute study nook that would be perfect for a distraction-free work setup.

We read reviews before booking about the road being close but we didn’t find it busy or noisy at all. The only thing I would be mindful of is the steep stairs to the loft, which are open on one side, great for the glutes and was no problem for us but may not be suitable for those with knee problems or small kiddies having to go up and down them to get to the bedroom.

10/10 experience for us, we would absolutely stay again
