Wind through the picturesque sugarcane fields of South Ballina where you will find us on our 60 acre property with spectacular ocean views, beautiful native bushland and Australian wildlife.

Sugar Beach Ranch is one of the most secluded treasures in the Northern Rivers, however, only 40 mins from Byron Bay NSW and within 30 mins to Ballina, Bangalow and surrounding scenic waterfalls.

The property offers a two-bedroom bungalow and a secluded campsite for self-contained campers, in addition to our other variety of services including retreats, equine therapy, weddings and venue hire.

Our property is surrounded by the crystal clear ocean, a beautiful rural outlook and rainforest walks. Sugar Beach Ranch offers you a private and picturesque beachfront experience. Simply put it's ‘Nature’s Playground’.

Sugar Beach Ranch is a special place... a place of relaxation and reflection. We want guests to enjoy the break away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Wake up to songs of native birds. Bring your own horse, guitar, or your writing book and loll away the hours nurturing your soul in paradise.

This is a private campsite, only one group of campers at a time. Maximum privacy!

Bring your fishing gear, there is direct access to the beach from the campsite, or go on a short drive to the Richmond River.

Depending on the time/weather can review the option of camp fires with each guest.

Guests have shared access to the 15m resort-style magnesium pool and direct beach access from the property.

We are a wildlife sanctuary and an operating farm with horses, chickens, pigeons and a peacock. There are dogs on the property to protect the chickens and other animals from predators, so please don’t bring any pets of your own.

Enjoy Sugar Beach Ranch with your horse. Bring them along for the holiday, we are right on the beach and there are lots of trail rides. Paddock accommodation available.

As we are located in the secluded and sleepy cane fields of South Ballina there is limited access to shops, cafes, restaurants, etc.

The Burns Point Ferry is the best way to get to us, it runs from 5:30am until 12.30am daily, consistently running back and forth. An approx. 8min journey each way and costs $7.00 each way, payable by credit card only. So you can easily go into Ballina town for all shops, cafes, restaurants, etc.

If the ferry isn't for you, you can drive to Ballina via Wardell on River Drive.

The bungalow is located approx. 25m from the main residence, and the campsite is located approx. 300m from the main residence tucked away in the paddocks and forest. We are onsite and available if needed.

Sugar Beach Ranch is an operating farm with staff onsite caring for animals and maintaining the grounds. All care is taken to ensure minimal disruption to guests.

Sugar Beach Ranch sits on 60 acres of unspoilt east coast beauty with endless deserted white sandy beaches, eagles soaring overhead, whales breaching on the doorstep and beautiful native coastal vegetation. Sugar Beach Ranch was the beloved home of CM Murphy, a music maverick, entrepreneur and visionary. Chris' life has been a colourful journey; being thrust into the music industry at a young age, through to his success in managing INXS to international stardom and beyond. His tenacity and vision unparalleled. Sadly, in January 2021, Chris succumbed to a rare form of cancer and passed away at his beloved Sugar Beach Ranch in South Ballina. Stevey Arena, his eldest daughter has decided to open the big white gates at Sugar Beach Ranch and share the beauty which Chris often referred to as ‘natures playground’. Chris and the Stevey spent hours riding horses on the beach, raced pigeons, wrote books and built a thriving egg farm as they lived their Surfing Cowboys lifestyle. Chris is greatly missed, however, having worked with her father for many years, Chris’s eldest daughter Stevey Arena, has taken the reins as Managing Director for the Murphy Petrol Group, and is continuing the legacy of her father. Chris recognised the opportunity to promote the creative potential of Australia's Northern Rivers at a global level. This is the driving force behind opening up Sugar Beach Ranch for people to enjoy this special place and at the same time, contribute to the local economy and enhance the area.

Mindfulness Beach Walk With Horses

A magical sunset or sunrise walk with horses on the beach. We start the session with the herd at liberty, and explore how horses ground, regulate and connect themselves. We continue this mindfulness experience during a beach walk with two horses on the beach.
