With the pristine Barrington River flowing through the property, guests enjoy direct access to the riverbank - ideal for picnics, leisurely walks, or a refreshing swim on warm days. Set within dark-sky country, nights are just as memorable as days, with the Milky Way stretching brilliantly overhead in a truly awe-inspiring natural display.

The home has been thoughtfully designed to celebrate its surroundings. We absolutely loved our stay at The Retreat at Barrington! The house is beautifully located on a hill with stunning views of the valley. It was incredibly comfortable and well-equipped, with everythin...g we needed for a relaxing getaway.

The pizza oven was a highlight – we used it every day and had so much fun!

The manager was very helpful and responsive.

A small suggestion: The current rubbish disposal process could be improved. It would be helpful if there were more readily available bins on the property and if the cleaning service could assist with rubbish disposal (taking the rubbish to the main road). Upon arrival, we found the bins overflowing with rubbish from previous guests. While the manager promptly addressed the issue by sending cleaners back, this highlights a potential area for improvement in the property's maintenance.

Despite this minor point, we highly recommend The Retreat at Barrington to anyone looking for a peaceful and enjoyable stay.

The township of Gloucester is gorgeous with friendly locals and cute cafes. The Gloucester District Park is stunning park with beautiful trees, walking tracks, playground and river running through it.

The Bucketts Way

The Bucketts Way is one of NSW's oldest tourist drives and the view of Bucketts Mountain is nothing short of breathtaking. Expect misty mountain ranges and lush green fields.

Kayaking At Barrington River

This is no regular kayaking. If you're in the mood to have a visceral experience with nature you can hire out kayaks to head out on the white water rapids on Barrington River from local adventure companies. Don't worry there are various route levels from Beginner to Advanced and you'll be trained in how to recover after a capsize (a very common occurrence). Great for a group activity.

Roadies Cafe

Iconic coffee stop for travellers passing through Gloucester. Lots of motorbikes and nostalgic memorabilia in a relaxed atmosphere.

Buccan Buccan Scenic Drive

This is the best short loop scenic drive I've done. You'll see the remarkable Buccan Buccans from all sides, the best of our beautiful rural landscapes, cross numerous river fords with excellent picnic & swimming spots, and end up back in the heart of Gloucester.

Cafe Lovers

The grandiose view of Bucketts Mountain can be seen from the main shopping district in Glouster, called Church Street. Gloucester has plenty of cafes and boutiques to explore, and you have to try the coffee at Common, which has plenty of delicious food options too.
