Additional Information
Our Property
Our place is on Kirrae Whurrung Country and consists of 10 acres of pastured paddocks where our sheep graze, productive food gardens with free ranging ducks as well as native bushland abundant with wildlife.
The property stretches out up along the river bank with beautiful views of Mount Emu Creek and farmland beyond. The land here changes immensely throughout the seasons and each season has its own flavour and feel to it.
The Train Carriage
The guest dwelling is a retired and repurposed wooden 1909 Victorian Rainway T van. We have spent the last two years converting it into a tiny house for guests to enjoy. While many modern upgrades have been made, we have been mindful to preserve as much of the original wooden interior and rustic feel as we could.
Wooden furniture inside the train, such as kitchen benches and bedside tables, have been made by us from cypress timber, some of which was harvested and milled right here on our property and some of which was brought in from a local mill.
The timber cladding on the outside is also cypress and was milled by Ceres Fair Wood in Melbourne.
Sustainability
It has been a priority for us to create an eco friendly dwelling where all grey water is being repurposed for watering trees, the water in taps and shower is heated via solar panels and human waste is treated in a composting toilet (Green Loo).
Wildlife
From the verandah in from of the train carriage guests will be able to observe the abundant birdlife including yellow tailed black cockatoos, kookaburras, eastern rosellas, fairy wrens and various water fowl.
There is a good chance to spot koalas, platypus and swamp wallaby along the creek.
This abundance of wildlife also includes snakes and lizards as well as bugs, insects, spiders and ants. If you are not a nature lover, then this might not be the best spot for you.
You may, at times, encounter a lizard or snake on the property. It is your responsibility to keep an eye out.
Mount Emu Creek
Guest can access the creek and explore along a path by the water. We have an old canoe stationed on the bank that guests are welcome to take out for a self guided paddle up or downstream.

Privacy
The train carriage is located about 50 metres from our main dwelling. Between them sits our productive permaculture food garden as well as taller trees and bushes which creates good privacy for both us and our guests. We spend a lot of our time working outdoors throughout the property, so you may occasionally hear us (especially our five year old daughter). When guests are staying, we will endeavour to keep out of the paddock that the train carriage faces, however there may be times when we need to briefly enter to fix a fence or move our sheep.
Our garden and house
We love our little wild garden and many visitors enjoy having a wander around and checking it out. If you are interested in permaculture gardening and specifically gardens that are a bit wild, then do let us know, and if we have time, we can give you a little tour. Please don't wander around our garden and house area without talking to us first though.

We had a lovely relaxing time at Emu Creek Retreat. The space was perfectly set up for a quiet couple of nights. We were close to the main house, but felt comfortable in our stay. Thanks for having us!

The location was convenient: it was 20 minutes away from all the major shopping that you'd need including woolies, aldi, coles, and petrol.
The accommodation was as described, clean and well-organiz...ed, and had basically everything you'd need.
The check-in process was simple and straightforward, and the communication from the host was good: they were easy to get in touch with, even when they're camping in the mountains!
The hosts also provided some fresh produce from their own garden and milk from the local dairy farm, which was definitely a bonus and we felt so spoiled.
The environment was amazing: sitting right near a creek and the heaps of greens nearby, and sheep grazing in front of us, it was incredibly peaceful and refreshing. If you'd enjoy waking up to the sun coming through the window and sipping your coffee in front of beautiful nature view, or if you'd enjoy swinging on the hammock or rocking on a rocking chair breathing in refreshing air, this is definitely it.
We felt rejuvenated, refreshed, and revitalized. This was THE perfect getaway from the busy city. Highly recommend. 10 outta 10. Would definitely come back.

11m high and an impressive 90 metres wide, these falls are amongst the widest in Victoria! Set against the backdrop of lush dairy country you can easily spend the afternoon exploring here.
Pizza And Wine At Keayang Maar Vineyard
While Keayang Maar Vineyard is known for its shiraz and pinot noir, their pizzas are just as good. The sloping vineyard presented the perfect opportunity to stretch our legs before we headed back to Melbourne. Unfortunately, we couldn't take our new friend home with us.
Swimming At Murnane Beach
Entire beach to myself along the Great Ocean Rd. Murnane Beach has a large parking space and easy access with steps to the beach.
Drive The Great Ocean Rd
There's so many detours along the Great Ocean Rd and one being Childers Cove Rd. Make sure you get out and walk along the beaches and enjoy that salty goodness our beautiful country has to offer!
Caves Explore At Childers Cove
Childers Cove is such a beautiful beach to swim and explore at. It's part of the Great Ocean Rd although its out of way. So most of the time you can get the entire beach to yourself like me! Low tide you can explore into the caves too!
Childers Cove
On our drive along the coast, there was a beautiful beach called Childers Cove. There are plenty of hidden gems along the way and a quick look on google maps you can find a few hidden beaches.
