Lakeview House is a character-filled rural homestead overlooking Lake Yambuk, just minutes from the wild ocean beach and a short drive from Port Fairy. It’s a place for slowing down, where mornings begin with coffee in the sunroom watching birdlife on the lake, days are spent walking to the sea or exploring nearby caves and coastline, and evenings end by the fire under wide country skies.
Perfect for those seeking peace, space, and a slower pace of life.
A hidden gem on the Great Ocean Road, Lakeview House is nestled amongst lush farmland on the cusp of Port Fairy, on the edge of stunning Lake Yambuk and around the corner from Yambuk's wild ocean beach.
Over on the beach, it's rare to see another person. In fact, seabirds and the occasional fur seal are usually the only other creatures to break the solitude. If you look out over the waves you can see Dean Marr Island, Australia’s only off-shore volcano which is home to a large seal colony and on the migratory path of the Southern Right Whale. Lakeview House is located in a region rich with historic and natural beauty. Ancient lava flows once created the spectacular rock formations we see today.
Lakeview House is located on Country of the Eastern Maar and Gunditjmara Peoples. We acknowledge them as the Traditional Owners of this land, and pay respect to Elders past and present.
There is so much to do:
• Watch the sun set over the lake
• Enjoy canoeing, birdwatching or fishing on Lake Yambuk, only 10 mins walk from the house
• The wild ocean surf beach (with views of Dean Marr Island) is also a 10min stroll away
• Swimming and surfing are easy in nearby Port Fairy, where you'll also find plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants, and monthly markets
• Explore the Byaduk Caves
• Visit the emus at Tower hill
• Make a daytrip to the Glenelg River for a spot of kayaking (or a drift dive down Ewens Ponds)
• Sail out to Dean Marr Island and see the seals
• Take a tour of Budj Bim Cultural Landscape UNESCO World Heritage site, one of the world’s most extensive and oldest aquaculture systems, located on the shores of beautiful Tae Rak (Lake Condah) **Highly recommended!**
• or... just wile away the hours watching birdlife on the lake from the comfort of the daybed
The practical stuff
• Fully equipped kitchen
• Ocean beach & lake access just around the corner
• Spacious living areas with daybed, books, art & lake views
• Indoor dining by the Coonara-style fireplace
• Covered outdoor dining with 2nd fireplace
• Wooden shutters for perfect sleep-ins
