Welcome to HeartStone Hill, a boutique stone retreat where handcrafted craftsmanship, luxury and nature come together to create an unforgettable escape.

Just minutes from the heart of Castlemaine, our beautifully restored stone Studio sits on 2.5 acres of peaceful bushland, surrounded by mature gardens, towering gum trees and abundant native wildlife. Unlike many local accommodation providers, we welcome one-night stays, including weekends, perfect for spontaneous escapes, special celebrations or overnight visits. We are a dog friendly site. (one small/medium size dog - extra $30 per stay)

HeartStone Hill was lovingly built by a local stonemason who began the project in 1999. His extraordinary workmanship can be seen throughout the property, from the beautifully crafted Studio itself to the extensive sandstone retaining walls that wind along the driveway, gardens and surrounding landscape. Every stone reflects years of dedication and creates a property unlike any other in the region.

Wake to birdsong, watch kangaroos quietly grazing nearby, spot an echidna wandering through the gardens, or simply relax beside our heated swimming pool beneath the gum trees while taking in the sweeping eastern views. After a day exploring Castlemaine's renowned cafés, galleries, markets and wineries, return to HeartStone Hill to unwind in the infrared sauna or simply enjoy the peace and privacy that make this property so special.

Our property is called HeartStone hill. It was built in 1999 by a local stonemason. It took him many years to build the house having completed the studio. His workmanship is extraordinary and evident around the property with retaining walls along the driveway, behind the house and car parking area.

There are beautiful gardens that create a tranquil setting for us and our guests. Local wildlife including kangaroos, echidnas, birds and bees. We enjoy spectacular Eastern views and relax poolside amongst the gum trees.

Guest access
The guests enjoy exclusive access to the Studio. If there is interest to access the outdoor swimming pool and sun loungers and infra-red sauna then that is possible on a complimentary basis. Free car parking behind the Studio. We are a LGBTQ+ friendly and dog friendly property. (+ $30 dog fee per stay)

Perfect place up in the hill to get away. Studio is perfect and is well equipped and is situated on an amazing property who Richard takes care of. We felt right at home.

Richard is friendly and did n...ot have any issue showing his garden off and providing tips to go to the local garden fair. I highly recommend this place.

We had an amazing time at Heartstone Hill. The cottage is absolutely beautiful and had everything you could possibly need for a night away. The grounds, gardens and pool were all amazing too! Richard and Melissa were so friendly and accommodating! Would highly recommend.

Exploring Castlemaine

Renowned for its rich goldrush history, Castlemaine offered an awesome, eclectic mix of markets, cafes, arts and great food. We wandered through The Mill, looking at vintage wares, drinking delicious wine in the sun at Boomtown and stocking up on cheese and smoked meats.

Buda Historic Home Garden

We decided to learn about some of the local gold rush era history. We explored the heritage-listed historic house and garden 'Buda' named after Budapest by its Hungarian owner who raised 10 children here.
