A brand-new, modern home set on an elevated rise at the edge of town, the house looks out across open valleys and borders native bushland. Mornings arrive with birdsong. Evenings settle quietly as the light softens and sunsets wash the hills in warm colour.

The house is calm and uncluttered in design. Clean lines, generous light and wide windows draw the landscape in, creating a relaxed connection to the outdoors while offering all the ease of contemporary comfort.

Wake to sweeping valley views from the main bedroom. Spend your days walking coastal tracks, cycling the Great Southern Rail Trail or exploring Wilsons Promontory.

Closer to home, wander through nearby villages and country towns, discovering good food, thoughtful cooking and excellent local coffee along the way.

Just 20 minutes from the entrance to Wilsons Promontory National Park and only a short walk or drive to Foster’s cafés and local stores, the house balances proximity with a sense of space and openness. A secure double garage suits guests travelling with bikes, surfboards or hiking gear.

Hi, I’m Elspeth. Originally from Scotland, I’ve made Victoria my home and fallen in love with its wild beauty and the shifting seasons, the rolling hills of South Gippsland, and the long stretches of coastline that always pull me back to the beach. Banksia Rise Retreat began with a view. I bought the elevated plot of land because of the sweeping outlook across town and the distant hills. Although the slope made the build more challenging at times, it was worth every moment now the long homestead-style design captures those beautiful views, letting the landscape become part of the experience. Outside of hosting, I like spending time at the local beaches, exploring nearby villages for good food and coffee. As a host, I love sharing my favourite spots in South Gippsland, from beaches to charming villages with great coffee and local produce. My hope is that your stay feels restorative, slow mornings with sunlight pouring in, peaceful evenings watching the colours fade over the hills, and plenty of space to unwind in nature. Cider Tasting At Gurneys

Gurney’s Cidery is the perfect post-hike stop after a day at Wilson's Prom. The gardens are stunning, with panoramic views over the water that make you want to linger long past closing time (we definitely did!). The cider tasting was a highlight, especially the warm spiced mulled cider, which hit the spot on a cool autumn afternoon. Between the friendly vibe, beautiful setting, and delicious drinks, we’d go back in a heartbeat.

We tried them all friends and had a nice time sipping the sunshine at Gurney's Cidery. But make sure you get there before 2pm if you want food! We just missed out! Great views too with a sculpture garden to wander about in.

Sunset At Mt Nicoll

We decided to check out the sunset from nearby Mt Nicoll. Only ten minutes away from the Old Dairy, this was an easy choice. A short five minute hike through bushland leads you to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding hills and towards Wilson's Prom. The golden glow over the hills was phenomenal, we watched the sun go down with the local roos and wallabies.
Sunset is my pick for the best time to visit. The drive up the hill is a little steep on loose gravel and may not suit smaller cars.
