The first thing we noticed when arriving at the Farmers Rest was the incredible views. The off-grid cabin is surrounded by farmland, making it an easy place to switch off and enjoy a few quiet days aw...ay. We were lucky enough to have great weather so we’d wake up to frosty winter mornings and ended each day with burnt orange sunsets.
Despite the chilly temperatures, the fire warmed the cottage surprisingly quickly, creating a cosy space to relax after being outside. But one of our favourite parts of the stay was the outdoor bath. Even in the middle of winter, it was a such a treat!
With no wifi and very few distractions, it was incredibly easy to slow down, spend time reading, and enjoy the slower pace. We also loved the attention to detail, you can tell Ruth has put a lot of thought into every corner of the cabin.
Although it feels secluded, it's only around a 30 minute drive from Taupō, making it easy to head out for a day of exploring before returning to the countryside.
We absolutely loved our stay and 100% stay again in future.

What an incredible weekend away! Everything about our stay was absolutely spectacular. The thoughtful little touches made it so special, from the fresh eggs, milk, and marshmallows to the beautifully ...cosy atmosphere.
The bed was so comfortable, the fire kept us warm and cosy, and the sunsets were simply breathtaking. It was the perfect place to relax, unwind, and enjoy the beauty of the farm.
Thank you so much for creating such a memorable experience. We loved every minute of our stay and will definitely be back!

Everything about this place called us to rest and relax. As we arrived there was stunning golden light followed by the most beautiful sunset we watched from the bath-where I spent most of my stay. Coz...y, quiet..the perfect spot to read, reset, watch the fire. So excellent dumplings from down the road. Would love to get back there again.

Explore The Waihora Lagoon Trail
A beautiful short forest walk to an open area between huge native trees. In winter this usually fills with water creating a lagoon, however it was dry when we visited. The trail is gorgeous though and well worth a visit.
The Kinloch Club Cafe
A nice little cafe with gorgeous views right on the golf course. The coffee is great and they have a good selection of cabinet food and menu items.
Burgers At The Lake
We got burgers for dinner one night from the Kinloch General Store and sat at lake while the sun went down.
Lake Taupo Swims At Kinloch
We went for a walk around the lake at Kinloch Beach, jumped in the water and found some sticks to throw for our furry friend.
Search For Pumice Stones On The Lake Shore
On the far south side of Kinloch beach you can find a lot of pumice (a light porous volcanic rock often used for foot care). Also fun for small kids to throw in the lake and watch as they float away.
Visit Kinloch Beach
A beautiful peaceful beach, perfect to relax or go for a swim when it's warm. There's a play ground nearby and a cool toy sharing shed which is awesome for kids.
