Shack 14 is a unique property on 10 acres of peaceful box iron forest in central Victoria.
Built in 2007 Shack 14 is designed by architect Ken Latona. Ken Latona is a prominent Australian architect and ecotourism developer who was a student and mentee of renowned Pritzker Prize-winning architect Glenn Murcutt. Latona is best known for applying Murcutt’s philosophy of "touching the earth lightly" which is demonstrated clearly at Shack 14. It is nestled in the bush, sensitively, quietly and perfectly.
The Shack has 2 bedrooms each with a queen size bed. The bedrooms have large shutters which open to the bush outside - think camping with doors and you get a sense of the experience at the Shack.
The Shack is a place to rest, to be quiet, to hear the rustling of the bush and to take the time to simply stop. It is best enjoyed by a couple but can accommodate four people.
Shack 14 is outside the little hamlet of Chewton. Chewton is a former gold mining town in central Victoria on Jaara country. Gold was discovered in Chewton in 1851 and the local Forrest Diggings are renowned as the world's richest ever shallow alluvial goldfield. Chewton is only a short drive from Castlemaine where you will find wonderful food and entertainment - then you get to go back to your quiet sanctuary in the trees; it is quite magical.
