Architect-Designed Farm Estate on 36 Acres | Highland Cows, Private Lake & Mount Macedon Views

There's a moment — usually the first morning — when someone steps outside with a coffee and just stops.
The paddocks roll out in front of them. A pair of Highland cows are grazing unhurriedly in the distance. Mount Macedon sits quiet on the horizon. Kangaroos move through the long grass at the property's edge. And it hits them: this is what they came for.
Thule Country Estate is a 36-acre private farm estate in the Macedon Ranges — 45 minutes from Melbourne, and about a world away from it.
The home
The homestead was designed by Paul Couch, one of Australia's most respected modernist architects — a man who spent six decades learning how to place a building inside a landscape rather than on top of one. The result is a house that doesn't shout. It sits low and easy in the land, with big open living spaces, a kitchen that genuinely works for 12 people, and a loft-style master suite with views across the property that will make you rethink ever staying in a hotel again.
Six bedrooms. Sleeps 12. Completely yours.
Hydronic heating runs through the whole home. There's reverse-cycle in every room. And when the Macedon fog rolls in — which it does, beautifully, in autumn and winter — the wood fireplace in the lounge is exactly where you want to be.
The grounds
This is a real farm. The Highland cows and goats don't care that you're on holiday. The kangaroos will be doing what kangaroos do regardless of your plans. The birdlife around the lake doesn't need your schedule.
That's the point. You come here, and nature gets on with it around you.
Wander the paddocks. Fish from the lake's edge. Find the spot on the property where Mount Macedon fills the whole view — you'll know it when you get there. Sit by the firepit until it's unreasonably late. Wake up and do it again.
When you want activity

Solar-heated pool (November–March) and pool deck with mountain views

When you want to eat and drink well
The Macedon Ranges punches well above its weight. Mount Macedon Winery Cellar Door and Restaurant, UUMM, Mount Towrong Vineyard, Mount Macedon Trading Post Café, Mr Macedon, Harvest and Soul — and that's before you've made it to Woodend or Kyneton.

This is such a huge place that is so peaceful and we're able to recharge. The hosts were very fast in replying to our needs as well. We love the pizza oven and the grill area. We recommend people to give this place a try and see for themselves, it's worth it.

Kylie and Ben are the owners of Thule Country Estate, and their love for the property is what drives everything about it. For them, Thule is a place to slow down, reconnect with nature, and share something genuinely special with the people you care about most. From the resident Highland cows to sunsets over Mount Macedon, the estate has a way of making time feel like it belongs to you again. As hosts, Ben and Kylie's goal is simple — they want every group to experience Thule the way they do, with space, comfort, and the kind of memories that are hard to find anywhere else.

Mount Towrong Vineyard

Macedon Ranges is known for its wine and Mount Towrong Vineyard was one of our favourite winery stops. We enjoyed a wine tasting and learned about the architectural history from the owner himself, before sitting for some nibbles and a glass of the Lagrein 2019 while admiring the views. Helpful tip: Come hungry – the food looked absolutely delicious here.

Mount Macedon Hotel

Head through winding, tree-covered roads into Macedon to try the wood fired pizzas and wines at Mount Macedon Hotel. We started our lazy long lunch in the warm sun out the front until we discovered even more outdoor dining to the rear under the shade of a magnificent, giant oak tree. The pizzas were fresh, comforting and came out pretty quickly - our favourite was the Prosciutto + Fig with gorgonzolla, rocket and spanish onion.

A picturesque cross can be found at this place, commemorating the ANZAC soldiers. There are also a couple of nice walks with a couple of lookouts to stop by.
