There is a range of books, DVDS, and board games you can use to pass the time.
Guest access
Guests access is via your own driveway, off the main one, and the cottage is private and a distance from the main house. However, you might see us coming and going. Please feel free to say Kia Ora and ask if you have requirements or questions we might help with.

We are ten kilometres (a ten-minute drive) from Martinborough Square. Only a two-minute drive from the famous Martinborough Tree Church and award winning Blue Earth Estate.
Surrounded by a working farm, we are immersed in stunning natural beauty. Depending on the season the adjoining paddocks can be housing sheep, cows, or even prize bulls. Due to the beautiful rural location, you will also be lucky enough to spot native birds in abundance.

We feel very fortunate to have moved to Hautotara in 2020. With Hautotara Cottage came the old shearers’ quarters, and it did not take us long to decide that we wanted to share its beauty and history with others. We had never seen so many stars with the naked eye and were completely awestruck by the night sky. Our hope was simply to create a comfortable space at Dark Sky Cottage where relaxation and connection come naturally. We have included many of the things we most enjoy when staying away from home, and we hope you enjoy them too: a place to slow down, discover tranquillity, and embrace a little romance.

Blue Earth Wines And Olive Oil

Patuna Chasm
A limestone chasm that has been quietly carving for over a million years. The walk takes you across golden farmland, through native bush, and down into the riverbed itself, where you’ll wade beneath moss-covered walls, waterfalls, fossils and stalactites. It’s not a boardwalk stroll – and that’s exactly the point.
Marty Mural Trail
Follow the Marty Mural Trail gives you a chance to explore the town of Martinborough while enjoying a range of vibrant art. The theme of the trail is ‘vibrant Martinborough’, with eight muralists offering their own unique interpretations.
Martinborough Town Square
The Martinborough Town Square is home to a beautiful park, delicious cafes and adorable stores filled with locally made goods. Grab yourself a coffee then spend some time browsing for books, clothes and, of course, the wine the area is famous for.
A Taste Of Asia At Crouching Tiger
Crouching Tiger is home to some of the best Asian food in the Wairarapa. The menu is filled with mouth-watering dishes and the atmosphere will make you feel like you’ve been transported halfway across the world.
