An Escape from the City
Adventure in Te Horo, Wellington, NZ
Only an hour north of the hustle and bustle of Wellington, Romance in Kapati feels like a world away. It provides a well needed escape from the city that allows you to switch off from reality. The quiet and idyllic, yet modern property has it all if you're looking for a chilled weekend away without going too far from home.
The accomodation is just a short walk to the stunning Te Horo beach where you can take a stroll, swim or even a horse trek. If you fancy something a little more social, drive down to Paraparaumu and visit Duncan's or Tuatara Brewery and sample one of the many cold New Zealand beers available in the sunshine.
If the outdoors and active adventures are your thing, Tararua Ranges are on your doorstep with some excellent short or long hikes to help you work up an appetite.
On the way home you might like to pop into the local supermarket, grab some local Kapati cheese and a bottle of red and spend the night relaxing in the serenity, maybe even making use of the private hot tub.

Things We Did
- Brewery
- Café
- Sunset
Once a month Duncan's hosts a Brewery Popup Bar. Grab a table inside the brewery, or choose to sit outside in the sun and work your way through the eight beers on tap. Food is provided by the Smoked & Pickled food truck, or if you feel like pizza, local favourite Passo can deliver straight to your table.
It's all in the name: a bus and a cafe. This quirky cafe is situated in Te Horo on the Kapiti coast. Grab a coffee and enjoy some great local food (but get there early as it's in high demand!)
Across the road from Duncan's, you have Tuatara Brewery. We opted to try the tasting paddle of four beers, which came in at fantastic value for only $20! Inside the tap room there is an array of memorabilia and awards to check out. When you're done, you have the option of buying a couple of takeaway beers to enjoy back at your accommodation... there's something special about buying directly from the source.
Head down to the secluded Te Horo Beach, a hidden spot with views of Kapiti Island. You'll struggle to see another person anywhere else along this stretch of sand, given how remote it is. What better way to enjoy the privacy than to kick back with a bottle of wine and watch the sunset behind Kapiti Island?
