Local Warmth on the Coast
Adventure in Otaki, Wellington, NZ
This spot was perfect for escaping the city and feeling truly connected to nature. The property contains a vast garden with free roaming chickens (laying fresh eggs!), plenty of space to relax... and two gorgeous garden baths to choose from!
The inside is very open and large, with bedroom, kitchen, and lounge together. The bathroom small but functional. My favourite features were the hanging egg chair, and bedside lamp that creates the shape of the moon. Space is definitely the theme at this property, with a massive telescope outside available for viewings on clear nights. The pool right outside the barn was perfect for the heat of the summer. The host, Nigel, was very friendly and offered some great local adventure advice.
In the nearby area I discovered a beautiful cafe and kitchen shop, Ruth Pretty Catering with a glasshouse seating area. Next on my agenda was a local lavender farm in full bloom - the perfect spot for a gram pic, and to pick up some freshly made lavender ice cream. I then connected to nature in the Barry Hadfield Nikau Palm forest - a short but unique walk surrounded by palm trees where you feel like you're in another country.
And there's so much more to see in the local area - the river, the beach, shops, hikes - it's the perfect spot to unplug and enjoy the outdoors. I left the barn feeling energised, grounded, and ready to take on the work week ahead.
