Torquay Surf Shack

A retro weatherboard beach shack with plenty of character… and we’re absolutely leaning into it.

We’ve taken an old beach house and given it a colourful, playful glow-up. Think vintage surf posters, bold paint, cosy corners, retro finds, fairy lights and furniture that says, “Let’s stay one more night.”

It sleeps 8 across 3 bedrooms, making it just as suited to two families escaping Melbourne for the weekend as it is to a bunch of mates chasing waves.

The location? Ridiculous.

Leave the car where it is. Walk to the beach. Walk to cafés. Walk to pubs. Walk home carrying fish and chips in one hand and an ice cream in the other. If Torquay had a “best spot to accidentally spend all day outside”, this would be it.

This isn’t luxury accommodation.

It’s better if your idea of luxury is:

• Surfing before breakfast.
• Coffee within stumbling distance.
• Board games and red wine by the fire.
• Sandy feet being completely acceptable.
• Kids disappearing into the bunk room while the adults pretend they’re “just resting.”

Like any beach shack with a few decades under its belt, it has character. The bathroom is compact, the walls are colourful, and the atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming and unmistakably Torquay.

If you’re looking for somewhere polished and predictable, this probably isn’t your place.

But if you’re looking for a fun, laid-back beach house where great days turn into even better evenings, and everyone ends up saying, “Should we just stay another night?” …welcome to the Torquay Surf Shack. 🏄‍♀️🌊☀️

Hi. My name is Jacqueline, the host The Cape Otway Homestead, The Guesthouse at COH, Koala Cottage, Stone Cottage and Camp CO. My husband and I stumbled across the homestead at the beginning of 2020 and decided to purchase it to bring it back to its former glory. We fell in love with the golden hour views, the way the Grampian stonework shines around the entire homestead and how magnificent the wildlife is on the 60 acres of national forest around the cabins. Sunset Drinks By The Water

We were pretty parched after a day of adventuring, so we dropped into Bombora’s pop-up beach bar in Torquay. We enjoyed a refreshing, ice-cold beer and a glass of pinot noir while watching the sunset and listening to live music. Even better, we witnessed a beautiful rainbow overlooking Fishermans Beach.
