Additional Information

Torquay Surf Shack

Description

A colourful retro weatherboard with plenty of character and absolutely no interest in being perfect.

Uneven floors, vintage finds, bold murals, cosy spaces and salty air make this a true Surf Coast beach shack.

Sleeps 7 guests across 3 bedrooms and is just a short stroll to beaches, cafés, pubs, restaurants and Torquay’s famous surf shops.

Leave the car behind.

It’s not polished luxury—it’s authentic Surf Coast living.

Sandy feet welcome. Good times expected. Surfing before breakfast. 🏄‍♀️🌊

The Property

Welcome to the Torquay Surf Shack—a colourful retro beach house that’s relaxed, welcoming and full of personality.

We’ve taken an old weatherboard shack and given it a playful new life while keeping everything that makes old beach houses so special. Expect vintage surf art, bold murals, cosy reading corners, fairy lights, retro treasures and spaces designed for slowing down after a day at the beach.

The house sleeps 7 guests across 3 bedrooms, making it ideal for families, couples travelling together or a group of friends chasing a weekend on the Surf Coast.

The location

It’s hard to beat.

Park the car when you arrive and forget about it.

From the front door you can easily walk to:

• Torquay Front Beach
• cafés and great coffee
• restaurants and pubs
• surf outlets and flagship stores
• About Time Bathhouse
• playgrounds and coastal walking tracks

Grab fish and chips, wander home with an ice cream, catch the sunset and do it all again tomorrow.

What staying here feels like

Luxury means different things to different people.

Here it looks like:

* Surfing before breakfast.
* Coffee a few minutes from the front door.
* Long lunches that somehow become dinner.
* Board games and red wine by the fire.
* Fairy lights after dark.
* Sandy feet that nobody worries about.

Before you book

This is a genuine older beach shack with plenty of history and character.

The floors aren’t perfectly level, the house has its quirks, and we’ve embraced them rather than hidden them.

The bathroom is also a little different. There’s one indoor shower room, one separate toilet room, plus a warm outdoor shower that’s perfect after a morning at the beach.

If you’re looking for polished, predictable luxury accommodation, this probably isn’t your place.

But if you’re looking for somewhere relaxed, colourful and full of personality where everyone instantly feels on holiday…

Welcome to the Torquay Surf Shack.

Other Things to Note

One of the best things about the Surf Shack is the huge backyard.

Set on a massive block, there’s plenty of room for kids to play, friends to spread out, or simply to enjoy an afternoon in the sunshine before firing up the barbecue. After a swim, rinse off under the warm outdoor shower and settle in for the evening under the fairy lights.

From here, it’s an easy walk to About Time Bathhouse, Torquay’s iconic surf outlets and flagship stores, the beach, cafés, pubs and restaurants.

Whether you’re here to surf, explore the Great Ocean Road or simply slow down for a few days, we hope you’ll love it as much as we do.

Hi. My name is Jacqueline, the host The Cape Otway Homestead, The Guesthouse at COH, Koala Cottage, Stone Cottage and Camp CO. My husband and I stumbled across the homestead at the beginning of 2020 and decided to purchase it to bring it back to its former glory. We fell in love with the golden hour views, the way the Grampian stonework shines around the entire homestead and how magnificent the wildlife is on the 60 acres of national forest around the cabins. We think it’s a pretty magical spot. We hope you enjoy it too. Follow along on insta @capeotwayhomestead

Sunset Drinks By The Water

We were pretty parched after a day of adventuring, so we dropped into Bombora’s pop-up beach bar in Torquay. We enjoyed a refreshing, ice-cold beer and a glass of pinot noir while watching the sunset and listening to live music. Even better, we witnessed a beautiful rainbow overlooking Fishermans Beach.

Sunrise At Torquay Beach

We caught a moody sunrise before heading out for a surf at Torquay Beach. The dog was pretty happy running through the waves and socialising with the other early morning dog-walkers.
