ROCKHOUSE DETAILS;
Rockhouse is fully self contained with 2 loft bedrooms. One queen and the other with a queen and 2 singles (bunk style).

You can just relax on the verandah , with a glass of local wine and enjoy the peace and quiet or if you feel energetic you can go for a bush walk and explore the surrounding bushland. The log fire is an added bonus for romantic winter stays, along with your own private jacuzzi.

GUEST ACCESS;
Guests have access to most of the property, with many bushwalking tracks.
There are 5 separate cottages on the property and the swimming pool is located in front of Ironbark Lodge and is for use by all guests.

We stayed at the Rock House at Hunter River Retreat for a rainy weekend and, although the weather kept us mostly indoors, we absolutely loved our cosy stay. Spending the weekend curled up inside with ...the fire going was incredibly relaxing and exactly what we needed.

We did manage a short walk around the property and completely fell in love with all the animals. If you’re an animal lover, this place is fantastic! Our daily visits from Smokey the horse, along with Elliot and Max the miniature donkeys, were definitely a highlight of the trip and made the stay feel extra special.

We had an amazing time away at the Rockhouse. The house was a beautiful little getaway nestled in the bush. We loved cozying up to the fireplace and loved going for scenic walks, looking at the beauti...ful view from the top of the mountain. We adored the beautiful animals and the company they brought .

Bushwalking At Hunter River Retreat

There is 110 acres to explore, there are numerous walks from easy walks to mountain climbs. The spectacular views of the valley are worth the climb.

Wildlife On The Property

Rockhouse is set in 110 acres of Australian bush, so the choice is yours whether you want to be adventurous and go for a hike or just sit back and enjoy the peace and serenity. You don't need to go far to see kangaroos and wallabies. They can usually be spotted close to the cottage at dawn and at dusk. There is also a large variety of native birds. If you're lucky you might even see a goanna or an echidna.

The hike to the top of the property is incredible and hosts an awesome view that looks out over the valley. We set out for a sunrise hike and made it to the top as the sun was coming up. With fog filling the valley and the warm hints of sunrise lighting the path for us, it was nothing short of unreal.

Horse Riding At Nearby Whitethorn Academy

Learn to ride horses , enhance your skills safely in a fun environment or just go for a cross terrain ride at Whitethorn Academy, conveniently located minutes at 346 Maitland Vale Road, Maitland Vale in the lower Hunter Valley.

Breakfast At Common Grounds

We were looking for a spot for breakfast and we couldn't go past the Common Grounds in Morpeth! It had a great vibe and awesome staff who looked after us well and served great food and coffee. We'll definitely visit there again!

Country Roads To Morpeth

The roads taken to get from The Rockhouse to Morpeth are incredible! Plenty of open countryside with the rolling hills spanning the horizon. The roads are best driven slowly and mindfully as they are narrow, and the view is amazing!

Morpeth Township

Morpeth is a beautiful old town which was established as a steamer ship port in 1821 and has so much old fashioned charm to it. There's an abundance of quirky antique stores, cafes and restaurants which are all readily available and within a short walk of one another.
A walk down to the river's edge and the jetty alongside it is also worth a look!

The Hunter Valley And River

The Hunter Valley region encompasses quaint towns, rolling vineyards and olive groves, and stunning national parks. Head out bushwalking in Yengo National Park or explore Barrington Tops National Park, which is part of the World Heritage Gondwana Rainforests.
