HOUSE DETAILS
1.5 hrs from Melb, 20 Mins Birregurra & Brae, 25 Mins Aireys Inlet
, 15 mins from Moriac & Winch.

When you hire Wensleydale, you have exclusive access to the 80 acre property and use of the house & shed. Maximum occupancy is 10 guests - with 5 beds in total. Two bedrooms down stairs - and a spacious loft bedroom upstairs housing ground level bunk nooks.

The house has been designed, constructed and decorated in great detail. Bringing the outside inside the high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows and natural finishes create an airy, uncluttered, beautiful space to breathe and escape the trappings of city life. In summer you can choose to turn on the fans, open the floor to ceiling window-doors and enjoy the breeze of cross ventilation. Or shut the house up and turn on the aircon in extreme temperatures. In winter curl up by the fire and read a book.

The lounge, dining and gourmet chefs kitchen are open plan offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The living area’s feature is the concrete chimney, poured in-situe, and home to a chimenee phillippe which heats the house in winter. Sink into our sofas and watch the sunrise with a coffee or the moon rise with a red wine.

There’s no TV in the main house but in the pigeon holes on the way upstairs you’ll find a serious stash of wine glasses and a great selection of books and boardgames. You can log on to the wifi, download the sonos app and listen to your favourite tunes on our Bose sound system.

Cook up a storm in our fully stocked kitchen and host a fabulous dinner party (table seats x10). Concrete benches, walk in pantry with kitchen essentials, nespresso machine, microwave, commercial grade cookware, microwave, dishwasher, Falcon gas stove and electric oven are perfect for creating your favourite meals. Enjoy the use of the Kitchen Aid, rice cooker, wok, mandolin and our extensive collection of chopping boards (which we love to use as platters). Eat outside on either the sunrise or sunset deck - depending in the time of day.

You’ll sleep like a log in our luxurious beds and beautiful linen surrounded by all the wood! Both downstairs bedrooms have the choice of either memory foam pillows or goose down king pillows. We use a combination of 100% linen and Actil First Line Cotton sheets (with a muslin weave) for the ultimate sleep.

The master bedroom is home to a generous pillow top king bed. You’ll fall asleep to the sound of frogs and wakeup to the stunning view of our neighbours damn. And if you’re lucky you might see a fox sneak down and try and poach some duck eggs. Make yourself at home and unpack into our walk in robe (which is also where our cot & change table currently live).

The 2nd downstairs bedroom has a pillow topped Queen bed and is dusted in the dulcet tones of calming blue. This room completely blacks out which is perfect for an epic sleep in!

Our downstairs bathroom is home to the most luxurious natural stone tub which is ideal for long soaks…perhaps with a book or a vino! The window/door opens up to our sunset deck where the outdoor shower and galvanised french bath tub live. Take one of the lanterns from the entry and shower or bath under the stars at night.

Our loft bedroom is home to three ground level bunk nooks - two Queen beds and one King. Although all in one room these beds still offer a small amount of privacy from one another. With an ensuite with shower and toilet this is the perfect retreat for kids or … the guest who arrive last!

The shed houses a laundry and breakout area with a TV for emergencies such as The Grand Final, Aus Open or teenage meltdowns.

The Wensley is suitable for children of all ages - we have a cot, highchair and kids table for guest use. As the house is built entirely out of timber the chance of splinters is quite high - especially for those crawling!

Unfortunately pets are not permitted.

The Wensley is available as a location for shoots - please contact us for a specific day rate for this purpose.

We had the most amazing time at The Wensley. Such a gem of a place. Looking back at our whirlwind trip of Australia, our highlight was definitely our few nights we spent here. I wish we had booked in ...for longer. Also, Frances was a star. Forever accommodating my changing dates and very responsive. Thankyou for a wonderful stay. Will definitely be back.

What a wonderful time we had at this beautiful property. Beautifully designed, comfortable and welcoming. Everything we needed was there. It was lovely lounging on the couches in front of the fire,... walking around the stunning property and mountain bike riding in the nearby forest. And the most comfortable bed I think we have ever slept in! This is a very special place and I am so glad we had the chance to stay here.

Dust Off Your Boots

With over 80 acres to explore, the property backs on to Cape Otway national park. We spent hours hiking through the valley with our son. I recommend packing your boots as the terrain is easy but will vary with the weather.

Surfing

The only readily accessible beach is Aireys Inlet Beach (322), which is located at the mouth of a gully. It has a small car park, and steps down to the beach from the end of Eagle Rock Parade. There are beach breaks over the bars and southern reefs.

Step Beach And Split Point House Trail

From the car park of Split Point Lighthouse, we walked approximately 500 metres east of the lighthouse to the stairs that zig-zag down the tall sandstone cliffs to Step Beach. At the end of the protected bay stands Castle Rock below the lighthouse. In low tide, you can explore the many caves dotted along the cliffs.
Surf Coast Walk

Surf Coast Walk

Offering stunning natural beauty the walk stretches 44km along the coast. Explore at your own pace and distance to discover inspiring landscapes on foot or bike taking in the spectacular views of the beautiful Great Ocean Road. The walk connects you with the coastal towns of Torquay, Anglesea and Aireys Inlet making it ideal for a pitstop for a coffee or lazy brunch before the walk back.

Erskine Falls

The beautiful Erskine Falls tumbles 30 metres into the lush fern gully of the Erskine River. Take in the beauty of the falls from two lookouts and feel the mist from the cascading water as you take in the views. For passionate walkers take the 7.5-kilometre Erskine River Track which leads from the falls to Lorne along the river, passing Straw Falls and Splitter Falls. Erskine Falls are located just nine-kilometre from Lorne.

Otway Artisan Gluten Free Bakery

Birregurra is a tiny little town packed with hidden gems. It's only a 15-minute drive from the property and home to one of the best gluten-free bakeries in Victoria. We picked up a couple of super tasty, fresh-baked chicken pesto paninis, coffees and a few supplies to test drive the local Penny Royal Berry Farm Jam we picked up on the drive down.
