Shady Brook Cottage and gardens. The cottage is set in 12 acres of secluded bush and landscaped gardens featured on ABC Gardening. Bordered on one side by the Ovens river and on the other three side by State Forest. Its located just off the Great Alpine Road at Harrietville in Victoria's alpine high country at the base of Mt Hotham and Mt Feathertop.

Shady Brook Alpine Cottage offers you all year round activities and attractions. Each season offers something special, we are surrounding by the Alpine National Park and State forest offering a diverse range of activities. You can walk from your cottage into the village, or take a day or overnight trek using the world famous iconic tracks to Mt Feather Top. There are many shorter walks most suitable for bike rides, that take you out along the Ovens River into the Alpine National Park or down to Bright. Or just wander at will through our magnificent gardens, home to over 50 species of birds, enjoy a cuppa or a wine and soak in the peace and seclusion of Shady Brook.

Harrietville is a unique mountain village full of history, short walks lovely eateries and two hotels but it has preserved the quietness and is an ideal jumping off place many tourists destinations in the Ovens Valley. Only 25kms from Bright and 30kms from Mt Hotham, Harietville has ski hire and bus trips are available to Hotham.

The cottage setting captures the aura of the high country with cathederal celings, wide verandas, views of mountains, exquisite gardens and bush and an outside living area. The deck is perfect for dinning in nature with your own private barbecue and dinning area. Take in the birds and hear the river running, this is a unique holiday experience.

This cottage is ideal for families or couples wanting the secluded weekend. It’s tucked into the base of the mountain with your own fern gully that intertwines into natural bush whilst in front there are spacious lawns, landscaped gardens and tables to enjoy the fresh alpine air.

A great place to spend a cosy weekend away! The cottage is cosy and the wood fire is fantastic. John & Anne are lovely and make you feel completely at home.

Shady Brook Deluxe Spa Alpine Cottage was exactly what we all needed after a busy week. The house and grounds were beautiful and tranquil and our girls loved the spa bath. Thank you :) We also enjoyed the newly opened bike bath from Harrietville to Bright. I would HIGHLY recommend Shady Brook.

Shady Brook Deluxe Cottages was the most lovely place to stay. Quiet with the most beautiful gardens to explore. Set across the creek at the end of a street backing onto a State Forrest, this place is... very private. I would highly recommend Harrietville and Shady Brook Cottages if you are considering a holiday to the High Country.

The beautiful Ovens, Buffalo and Buckland Rivers flow in valleys surrounded by mountains. High annual rainfall and granite rocks result in fast flowing, clear water rivers and tributaries. Llilo, kayak or cool off in summer in a beautiful swimming hole. At Harrietville lake Tronoh, a favourite with locals and tourists.

Family Low Intensity Road Offroad Cycling

Harrietville is at the beginning of the shared walk and bike trail to Bright 25kms away, it follows along river and farm and passes by the Mountain Fresh Salmon and trout Farm and the village of Freeburg. Around Harrietville there are many other alternative routes.

Harrietville is well situated for the for cyclists wanting the challenge of our mountain Roads, combined with amazing scenery and so many different route options. Start on the Flat at Harrietville and choose your direction

Skiing And Cross Country

Mount Hotham offers 320 hectares of ski terrain for all levels, 35km of cross-country skiing. It along with Mount Feathertop also offers lots of tracks and trails suitable for snow shoe hiking and snow camping.

Bush-walking season for Hotham and Feathertop in the Alpine National Park is from October until mid-May. A range of tracks lead you to some of Australia’s best views, unique flora and fauna and full of history. However, also there are many short to medium walks around Harrietville for all levels.
