High on a hilltop above the Goulburn Valley, The Stonehouse is a restored ex-military cottage set on 14 private acres. Its facade is built from stone foraged from the land it stands on, and a wraparound verandah looks out over sweeping views of the valley below. The cottage runs entirely off-grid, with kangaroos and wallabies as your only neighbours. It's the kind of place where a weekend slows down the moment you arrive.
THE COTTAGE
The Stonehouse sleeps four across two queen bedrooms, sharing one bathroom. It suits two couples, a small family, or a couple wanting space to spread out. The lounge centres on the wood fireplace, with a separate dining room for long dinners and a sunroom for relaxing with a good book. Ducted evaporative cooling keeps things comfortable in summer.
The kitchen is fully equipped, with gas cooking and the cottage's original wood-fired oven: everything you need to cook a proper meal with produce from the region.
OUTSIDE
From the hilltop, the view stretches out across the Goulburn Valley. The wraparound verandah is the best seat for it, with morning coffee as the sun comes up and a glass of wine as the day winds down. There's also an outdoor bath under shadecloth, ready for a long soak whatever the weather. Beyond it all are 14 acres of bush, with kangaroos, wallabies and plenty of birdlife.
The entire cottage and all 14 acres are yours for the stay, with no one else on the property. Wander the hilltop, watch for wildlife, or walk the dog through the bush.
DOGS WELCOME
Bring the dog. There's no extra charge, and 14 acres of bush to explore together.
THE AREA
The Stonehouse is 10 minutes from the heart of Nagambie and the lake, 15 minutes from Tahbilk Winery, and 90 minutes from Melbourne. We're always happy to share our favourite local wineries, cafés and walks.

Additional Information
ARRIVAL
Self check-in via key safe, with free parking on site. Wi-Fi and a dedicated workspace are available. We won't drop by unannounced, but we're always a message away if you need anything.
DOGS
Dogs are welcome at no extra charge. We ask that they stay off beds and furniture. Please note there's no fenced area on the property. It's open rural land with native wildlife, so dogs will need to be kept on a lead or under close supervision at all times, particularly at dawn and dusk.
OFF-GRID LIVING
The cottage runs on its own solar and battery system with rainwater tanks. Everything in the cottage, including the evaporative cooling, can be used as normal, all day. Please don't bring or plug in your own high-draw appliances, such as heaters, hairdryers, straighteners or kettles, as these can drain the battery system.
USING THE EVAPORATIVE COOLING
Evaporative systems work differently from standard air conditioning. Keep a window or door slightly open while it's running so fresh air can flow through. It's most effective on hot, dry days and less so when it's humid. For best results, switch it on early in the day before the cottage heats up.
WILDLIFE AND BUSHFIRE SAFETY
The Stonehouse sits in natural bushland. Snakes and spiders are part of the Australian bush and are more active in warmer weather, so keep to clear paths, wear closed shoes when walking the property, and watch dogs in long grass. No outdoor fires are permitted during the CFA Fire Danger Period. Please download the VicEmergency app before arriving and check it during your stay for fire danger ratings and warnings.

We just went to chill for 2 nights with the dog and were not interested in activities and wineries etc. With that in mind, we found the house quite relaxing, just resting by the fire or reading outside. It is a beautiful house and very peaceful place. Would highly recommend staying there.

Right next to the Tahbilk Winery is the start of the Tahbilk Wetlands Eco-Trail. A lovely stroll along the old bridges and boardwalks amongst the wetlands. We stopped for a picnic amongst the grapevines.
Hire A Tinnie On The Goulburn River
Hire a tinnie and cruise around the lake or head down the Goulburn River. No license is required it's a great way to get on the water and have some fun. You could even cruise down to the wineries on the river. There are also, kayaks, canoes, SUP's and pedal boats available.
Take A Stroll Around Lake Nagambie
Massive lake in the heart of town that is hard to miss. Worth a stroll or bike ride around after grabbing a morning coffee.
