No pets
Go retro-eco and immerse yourself in nature in the forested mountains on the edge of the Barrington Tops in the northern Hunter Valley. Our 3 bedroom self-contained eco-cabin is in the peace & quiet - 50km away from town, and an hour from the edge of the busy Hunter Valley Vineyards.
The cabin is on the edge of a forest on a mountainside with 80km views across the Hunter Valley. Our 700m elevation brings fresh mountain air, blissful fresh rainwater, and sensational sunsets and starlit skies.
The cabin runs totally on renewable energy - wood and the sun! It is actually in 2 parts: kitchen & living room in the upper building, and 3 bedrooms and bathroom in the lower building, connected by a covered walkway.

Additional Information
The 1950's timber buildings were lovingly rescued, relocated, and renovated by Martin who opened them in 2000 as cutting edge examples of sustainable housing & living at that time. They work just as well 20+ years on, and Martin and Jan are pleased to welcome you now.
We'll show you how to cook on the woodstove/oven, and you'll find everything you need for a 'step back in time and relax' weekend. There's no wifi or TV to distract you from the nature outside! Nor are there any fancy electrical appliances, as we run on solar: no coffee machine, dishwasher, microwave etc.
The kitchen/lounge area is warmed in winter by the stoves (which also heat the water), but the bedrooms are unheated. In summer, there's no air-con, but we do have cool mountain breezes in the evening, and we're approx 6 degrees cooler than the Hunter Valley below.
You'll need to bring your own bedding (sheets, doona/blankets, pillows & towels) with you and take your rubbish away with you, as we have no garbage service here.
The bush BBQ/campfire and 100ha forested property to wander around will complete your stay in nature. Sit on the verandah and watch the wildlife, go for a walk through our forest, or watch the skies & awesome sunsets. If you feel like venturing out, take your mountain bike for a spin along the 30km of quiet national park road from our front gate, or go for a bushwalk in Mt Royal National Park, just 1km up the road.
Note that the last 3km of the 50km drive from Singleton is unsealed, although fine for 2WD vehicles.

Martin established Callicoma Hill in 2000 as a comfortable getaway in nature, where guests can experience nature in environmentally sustainable buildings. Martin & Jan now run their nature-based, family business providing fun, authenticity, adventure and meaning in a natural setting.
We are focused on doing this in a socially useful way, promoting health and the environment, and working in a co-operative and carbon neutral way. Importantly, our location offers a chance for time out of busy, urban lifestyles and the opportunity to reflect, recharge and create in a peaceful location.
Ask a QuestionAdventures on the Property
These are the exclusive natural wonders and outdoor activities within the property boundaries.
Bushwalking
You can enjoy short walks around our 100ha forested property. Walks range from about 10 to 30 minutes and enable you to experience native animals in the wild, be in amongst the trees and plants and the sounds of nature.
Sunset Over Lake St Clair The Hunter Valley
From our front paddock, the 80km view south over the Hunter Valley is stunning, and there are no other houses or people in sight! You can sit all day watching the changing clouds, but when evening falls, the sunsets and fading light on the hills below are spectacular.
Yoga On The Grass
BYO yoga mat and set up on the grass outside the cabin - either face yourself towards the forest, or towards the 80km view back over the Hunter Valley. What more can we say?!
Surrounded By Nature
We would be very surprised if you didn't see our 'resident' grey kangaroos or red-necked wallabies. If you're a birdo, there are plenty of bird species in our forest, plus other small mammals we are happy to describe for you. Plus a forestful of native flora across our 100ha property.
Callicoma Hill Is A Forest
Our cabins are set on the edge of our forested 100ha property. You can wander through the forest on informal trails, or down the driveway through the tall trees.
The Southern Sky Is Above You
Crisp mountain evenings bring clear starry skies - our mountainside faces south, and you have the expanse of the southern skies above you, with no surrounding lights! See the Milky Way in its full milkiness, the Dark Emu and check your position with the Southern Cross. Excellent photography opp.
