We are pet friendly on request ($100 pet fee applies; $150 for two dogs).

Stroll to Morpeth's heritage-listed main street, picnic on the river bank, and dine at the lauded Boydell's Cellar Door and Restaurant (40m from the back gate). A luxe sojourn in the lower Hunter awaits.

This charming three-bedroom cottage is the creation of travel writer Sheriden Rhodes and husband (self-taught builder, painter, tiler, and jack of all trades) Tom Szecsodi.

Take a soak in the freestanding bath, gather round the wood fire in cooler weather with a glass of wine in hand, or enjoy a G&T on the front verandah at sunset. Both (identical) guest rooms offer classic queen-size iron beds, AH Beard plush mattresses, and fine linen. A third room offers a dedicated workspace with a desk and office chair plus a single, nickel cast iron bed (extra cost for single bed).

In the stylish bathroom with herringbone tile floors enjoy Grown Alchemist amenities. A cute laundry offers a washing machine and a second toilet.

The River Haus features gorgeous old treasures including ship's rope, vintage kitchen scales, Bentwood chair, steamship trunk coffee table, and weather-beaten boat oars. New treasures include Smart TV, JBL soundbar, wifi, ducted heating and cooling, blackout blinds (including a nifty automatic blind for the back doors), Bosch dishwasher, and Bosch gas oven.

Breakfast At Common Grounds

We were looking for a spot for breakfast and we couldn't go past the Common Grounds in Morpeth! It had a great vibe and awesome staff who looked after us well and served great food and coffee. We'll definitely visit there again!

Morpeth

I have a real love for small, regional Australian towns, and Morpeth ticks all the boxes. Once you arrive in Morpeth, you're treated to a whole range of weird and wonderful shops. You can get your sugar fix from Miss Lily's Lollies, your evening wine from Boydell's cellar door (their Reserve Shiraz Pinot Noir was amazing) or get lost exploring the The Morpeth Antique Centre.

Morpeth Township

Morpeth is a beautiful old town which was established as a steamer ship port in 1821 and has so much old fashioned charm to it. There's an abundance of quirky antique stores, cafes and restaurants which are all readily available and within a short walk of one another.
A walk down to the river's edge and the jetty alongside it is also worth a look!

Country Roads To Morpeth

The roads taken to get from The Rockhouse to Morpeth are incredible! Plenty of open countryside with the rolling hills spanning the horizon. The roads are best driven slowly and mindfully as they are narrow, and the view is amazing!

Horse Riding At Nearby Whitethorn Academy

Learn to ride horses , enhance your skills safely in a fun environment or just go for a cross terrain ride at Whitethorn Academy, conveniently located minutes at 346 Maitland Vale Road, Maitland Vale in the lower Hunter Valley.

Paterson Court House Museum

A really interesting museum located in Paterson. It's definitely worth a visit if you would like to know more about Patersons historical society.
The museum is only open on Sundays, and from here you can also do the self-guided Paterson Town Walk which leads you around the historic town of Paterson, providing information about its heritage buildings and features.
