"Bliss" - Last True Beachfront, Great Mackerel Beach - All-Tide Access!

Pet-friendly
Just a few steps down from the house to Great Mackerel Beach on Pittwater - the house was named "Bliss" in 1961 when it was built. Lovingly restored to its quirky 60's feel you get to rewind, relax and rejuvenate in this idyllic and isolated part of Sydney backing onto the Kuringai Chase National Park.

House can be accessed in all tides direct from the beach - no struggling over rocks or up a path - just a quick wheelbarrow push form the wharf.

The boat-shed (one of only 2 here) is a veritable treasure trove of kayaks, inflatables, deck-chairs and exercise equipment.

Make cocktails while you spin the vinyl collection, have that family chat while you wash the dishes (no dishwasher - it was the 60's ...) and play boardgames from the collection in the spare room.

We had an incredible time at Beachfront Bliss with our family. This classic beach house has been lovingly restored in keeping with its original intent. The location is breathtakingly beautiful. Everyw...here you look, there are divine views. The beach is literally at your doorstep and all the convenience of Kayak’s, surf ski, inflatables, SUP’s and fishing gear. Beautiful walks to explore close to deserted beaches. The owners are beyond helpful . They even provided great recommendations to stock the fridge with local delights on the way up. Nothing was too much trouble. If you are looking for a holiday where you can have some time away from it all in total bliss this is the place for you. Thank you for our amazing stay. We will be back soon! Sarah, Lindsay and family.

Aaah. The 60's beach shack at Great Mackerel Beach...What a find!
It is hard to believe this place exists. We drove up from Melbourne with our two kids for a winter escape and had two perfect nights a...nd days here. It was a feast for the eyes and ears with birds, gentle waves and the lush, almost tropical garden against the backdrop of the ocean. A peaceful oasis.

The place is the perfect balance of style and comfort, beauty and homeliness, harking back to holidays of the past. The fact that our kids could go down and get the kayaks and be in nature independently also felt like days of old.
One day my 10-year-old son spent the day fishing on the jetty on his own and we could watch him from the verandah as he came back and forth with ease. The feeling of independence made his holiday and fishing is now his new thing. (He was up and dressed and down there first thing the next morning right up until we got on the ferry to go home)

The record collection was absolutely top-notch and accompanied every scene perfectly, such a joy not to be listening to music on our phones! The dining table was the perfect spot for puzzles, cards, conversation and cups of tea. We also loved our sunset walks and the general chill of the whole area. It was a very peaceful few days in an extremely sweet place. I seriously spent the whole time exclaiming in appreciation and awe at the beauty ( especially at the beautiful eucalypts that frame the view on both sides - just magic).

Mark and Geoff were generous and incredible in their communication and we came well-prepared. We could feel their love of the place and their happiness in sharing it. The whole stay was super easy.

It was such a short time and just a taste of the kind of unwinding and reset that can happen in a place like this. The only thing was that I left the wine in the car on the mainland! This won't be happening next time!

This place has got to be one of my favourites yet, not only because the location made me feel like I was worlds away on a private island but because the whole experience was one I will never forget. A true paradise, stunning views and amazing decor! Can’t wait to go back again

Howdy! Mark & Geoff here - we've had a shack at Great Mackerel Beach for over 20 years we bought our current shack in 2017 and have lovingly restored it to its 60's charm. Being water access only it is a secluded sanctuary on the northern tip of Sydney. We like to think of it as Shack-luxe, rustic and charming and with everything that you need.

Mackerel Beach Lookout

Mackerel Beach Lookout

Only a stone throw from the property and visible from the balcony is one of the most impressive looks outs on the Mackerel trail walking track. We climbed the short incline and enjoyed the view across the bay without having to complete the Basin track.
Warm Evening Swim

Warm Evening Swim

After dinner, we enjoyed the warm evening by heading down to the beach and swimming in the ocean. An intimate beach, we were the only ones there and had the whole beach to ourselves.

West Head Trails And Secret Beaches

West Head feels like a world away. A maze of hikes and trails down both sides of the cliff, weaving through creeks and waterfalls down to secluded beaches. There are a number of popular trails, but with a little research, you can find tracks to yourselves and even pass some incredible aboriginal art along the way.
Ferry

Ferry

We love spending time on the water and the drowned valley estuary of Pittwater is a great spot to do so. You don’t need your own boat or kayak to get around, when there’s two ferry services running, one around Pittwater and the other all the way to the Central Coast.
