Additional Information

Hello, and welcome to the Gold Shack!

The Gold Shack is a lovingly restored mud brick cottage in the Chewton Bushlands.

Surrounded by gum trees on a three acre bush block, it's just a few minutes down a dirt road from Chewton, famous former gold rush town.

The Gold Shack includes an undercover BBQ, paved outdoor eating area, as well as an outdoor campfire, and festoon lighting to capture that after-dark magic.

Indoors you'll find two bedrooms (each with a queen bed), a generous bathroom with instantaneous hot water and a large walk-in shower, and an open plan lounge and kitchen with a cozy wood heater.

The kitchen comes with a gas cooktop and electric oven, alongside custom made cabinetry, mid century dining table with four chairs, and all the cooking equipment you could possibly need. Kitchen also contains a split system heater/air con.

Each bedroom has a queen bed, warm doonas, high quality bed linen, as well as woollen blankets, soft underlays, electric blankets, and a ceiling fan.

With white washed walls, concrete and slate floors, and old fashioned windows, the Gold Shack is the definition of rustic charm. Get ready for leisurely evenings in front of the fireplace, star gazing, bushwalks, and gallivanting about the countryside.

The Gold Shack is an excellent base for exploring Bendigo (approx 30 mins drive); Kyneton (approx 25 mins); Castlemaine (15 mins); Daylesford (40 mins); and Maldon (25 mins).

Things to note:

The Gold Shack is in a natural, bush setting. Bring warm clothes. Expect wildlife, birds, bugs, dirt — all that good stuff.

This property is located within a very leafy residential area. If you're after something super remote, this might not be what you're looking for.

House rules:

✿ Please leave the Gold Shack as you found it. It's a special place.

✿ No outdoor fires in summer.

✿ You're welcome to use the BBQ, however, it must be clean when you check out.

✿ Please be thoughtful about water and power usage. Do not use the electric oven, air con or washing machine on cloudy days or overnight. If you do, it's likely you will drain our batteries.

✿ As there is limited power, please let us know if you plan on using the electric oven, so we can turn on the back up generator.

✿ Do not flush anything unusual down the toilet.

✿ Have a good time, but be considerate of our neighbours. Thanks :-)

Such a peaceful, serene place - roomy and comfortable- my kids and I had a great stay and loved exploring the surrounds. Close to town yet still feels like an escape … would definitely recommend it you are wanting some downtime …..

My partner and I were looking for a place to disconnect from society and reconnect with each other.
When booking, we didn’t realise there were two bedrooms in this spacious cabin. It gave us space to ...be together and separate, which was exceptional given the price.

Ally and her partner were attentive to any concerns we had, whilst respectful of our privacy. The kitchen was more than well equipped, probably better than our own, it had everything we needed and more. Any small issues we ran into, there was a cupboard or drawer that had the solution.
It felt like a family holiday, without the stressors.

We fell asleep to the crackling of the fire and were awoken to the sounds of birds. At night, we listened to the stereo whilst playing games and enjoying each others company after a full day of experiencing Castlemaine (I would recommend Boomtown Wine & Bistro),

I’ve requested another booking before this destination becomes viral, I would urge any couples or friends wanting a weekend away to book this before it becomes unavailable.

A very nice place to stay kick back and do bugger all.
We throughly enjoyed the accomadation and listening to the local wild life and the birds scratching on the roof.
One bonus for me was finally goi...ng to Rod Hadfields, hot rod museum and having a good old gander at all his creations.

Cheers Kim and Myles.

Charming Chewton

We strolled around the quiet leafy streets of Chewton, an old gold digging town. The vibrant Autumn leaves adding to the charm.

Toasties Beers At Love Shack

We sat in a booth admiring the cosy decor sipping on a couple of local brews. We only planned on staying for one, but the music was on point, the staff were so warm and friendly we ordered a couple more rounds and some cheese toasties. Safe to say I'm going to be dreaming about that mouth watering snack for some time to come.

Exploring Castlemaine

Renowned for its rich goldrush history, Castlemaine offered an awesome, eclectic mix of markets, cafes, arts and great food. We wandered through The Mill, looking at vintage wares, drinking delicious wine in the sun at Boomtown and stocking up on cheese and smoked meats.
