Pet-friendly
Nestled at the rear of a quiet group of uniquely repurposed classroom portables and only a 5 minute drive from the heart of Castlemaine, this home has been lovingly styled with both old and new elements in a colourful, cosy and eclectic fashion.
Our light filled home backs onto the old Moolort railway line, now decommissioned but once used in gold rush times to link Maryborough and Castlemaine in the days before car travel. Take yourself back in time and hike down the 54km trail through the historic towns of the goldfields. Or perhaps cycle or stroll the rail trail alongside the old-time steam train that runs from Castlemaine to Maldon.
In summertime our bright open space is filled with sunshine streaming in through the many windows, and in wintertime guests can cosy up beside the wood burning fireplace while sipping a local wine and gazing out at the bright country stars.
Suitable for up to 11 people, our home has are three bedrooms. One has a queen size bed, the second contains a king size with an exterior door to a small adjoining deck, and the third bedroom has a double bunk and a single day bed. One living area has a double day bed, and there is a single ottoman that folds out into a bed upon request, generally more suitable for kids rather than adults to sleep on.
Amenities include almost everything in the house, including the kitchen sink. Guests are welcome to use washing machine and laundry facilities. Coffee, tea, milo, sugar and milk are provided. All condiments in the kitchen and pantry are for your use, and you are more than welcome to sample any of the fruits and veggies growing freely in the rustic gardens on the property. While foraging, you may come across the friendly neighbouring chooks who frequently take a stroll through our small yard.
Well behaved pets are allowed inside the home upon consultation, however please note that the property is not securely fenced.
The bright open space lends itself to day spa retreats, creative artist gatherings, musicians retreats and small reunions.

Wow, this house really is the house of light! I believe these houses are converted old school classrooms, and Tania’s place has definitely made the most of aspect. Heaps of north facing windows lookin...g out onto a couple of quince trees (which were in fruit when we stayed, and I can confirm were delicious!). There are three separate bedrooms coming off an open plan which has heaps of lovely places to chill - couch, daybed and a beautiful old table that gets drenched in sun. The kitchen has everything you need (including a slow cooker for poaching quinces)! We were there in autumn and it does get very cold overnight due to all the glazing, but the wood fire heats the place up effectively and there are also separate electric heaters in the bedrooms as well as a split system in the main living space. Tania was happy for us to bring our dogs, which was one of the things that attracted us to the place in the first place. I would point out that the yard is not fenced (it says this in the listing), but also that many of the neighboring properties are not fenced either. Unfortunately our dogs got into one of the neighbours’ yards and tried to chase her chickens, so we had to keep them inside for the rest of our stay.
I would highly recommend Tania as a host. She was always really quick to respond to queries and made us feel welcome throughout our whole stay.
