"Kookaburra Cottage" is a modern eco cottage, built 2017.

Nestled into a private valley on our property, home to gliding kookaburras, magpies, blue wrens, wallabies and echidnas. Nearby Mount Cole State Forest is home to 130 species of birds and an abundance of walking tracks. The cottage has many eco features throughout, including double glazed windows, eco-ply interiors and organic cotton bed linen. Warm in Winter with reverse cycle heating and cool in Summer (air conditioned).

Cottage is situated on our 13 acre block of scattered bush.

Update:
Mount Cole was devastated by a large bushfire in February 2024 that also burnt through our property. 12 of our 13 acres were totally blackened.
We lost several important buildings including the much loved 1995 meditation temple (a pentagonal shaped mudbrick building with its jarrah parquetry floor and a very impressive oregon timber suspended ceiling). It was very sad to lose that building; a great yoga and chill out space.
Fortunately the two cottages survived. Kookaburra Cottage had been built to BAL40, quite a high fire rating. I am sure that helped a lot.
The surrounding garden was mostly destroyed though was replanted a few months later. In some of the photos you can see the burnt tree trunks in the background. Thanks to the ongoing guest visitors who certainly help to brighten up what has been a challenging year!

Kookaburra Cottage was 10/10. It was the perfect place to unwind and it had absolutely everything we needed for our weekend of birding and cooking lovely meals. Greg was so responsive on our last minu...te booking (after our other plans fell apart) and saved the weekend! I barely looked at the listing with the tight turnaround (which is very unlike me in my extra planning mindset) so was a little in the dark from my own doing about what may or not be at the cottage. Everything was there! Firewood for the chiminea on the porch, bbq complete with gas, a very well-equipped kitchen and even a Bluetooth speaker for our one night of indoor cooking (the rest of the soundtrack to the weekend was birds!). It was just the two of us but a couple of couples would be very comfortable in the space too! The bird species on the property were fantastic. Look out for the Eastern Spinebills sipping on the garden flowers and the family of White-winged Choughs doing their silly patrolling of the property!

The property was so ecologically conscious but there were still thoughtful luxuries too. 10/10 no notes. Stay here with the birds.

We highly recommend Kooaburra Cottage, it was perfect for our small family. The cottage is located on a beautiful property with lots of wildlife and nature to explore. The cottage itself is well laid ...out, is spacious and had everything we needed, including a well stocked kitchen, lovely veranda with a fire place and a bbq.
The Pyrenees region was great to explore, with some nice country towns, amazing wineries that are very accessible and lots of National and State parks for hiking. We will be back!

The best quiet retreat with all the luxuries. Nice pans, sharp knives, good speakers, everything to make you feel more than at home. The view and tranquility is perfect to switch off and do nothing. Highly recommend, will be back!

We moved to Raglan / Mount Cole in 2006 as a tree change. An eclectic collection of mudbrick buildings including meditation temple nestled in the scattered bush hillside grabbed our attention. Kookaburra Cottage was built by us and a builder friend in 2016-17 with a view to lots of eco inclusions and a place for visitors to relax and be close to nature.

Hutchins Track

A short walk from the property will take you to Hutchings track. This will lead you in multiple directions and please pick the way that works best for you. It is a beautiful bush walk. Witness enormous gumtrees and the great Australian outback.

Raglan Falls

A 30-minute walk from the property you will find yourself at Raglan falls. The sounds of slowing water and songbirds allow you to submerge yourself in the sounds of nature. The waterfall was at a slow stream in summer, but the views and experience were well worth it.

Two Mile Circuit

After visiting the waterfalls, you can follow a different trail. We picked the Two Mile Circuit which starts from the Ferntree camping area and takes 45 mins to complete. Perfect spot for bird watching and spotting some big wallabies!

We went for an adventure to Mount Buangor State Park and discovered the beautiful Ferntree Falls and Cascade Waterfall. Park at the Ferntree Visitors Area and take the Waterfall Nature Walk. Easy track of around 45 minutes. Two Mile Circuit is another short hike to do in the area.

This is a beautiful and easy hike to see the Cascade and Ferntree waterfalls. Follow the path that starts at the Ferntree visitor area. This little hike only takes 45mins to complete. We saw lots of wallabies and birds and we were the only ones in the park so we had the place all for ourselves.

Middle Creek To Ferntree Falls Return

Beginning at the Middle Creek Campground Shelter, walk along the track marked Waterfalls Nature walk. There are some steep sections but steps and handrails
are provided to take you on a circuit walk of the beautiful falls.
