Welcome to "Calico's Chicken House!" We are so happy you found our historic farm which my parents purchased in 1947. Located just down the road from where my great grandparents purchased the original farm which is still in the family today.

The chicken house was named after our favorite farm cat, Calico. She resided there for 17 years and found great comfort. We know you will too. Recently remodeled to accommodate your every creature comfort need. Our house is family and pet friendly.

Additional Information

My parents raised more than a 100 chickens every six weeks in this house back in the 1950s. As wheat farmers, they had to feed a large family and harvest crews.

The chickens served as meat and produced eggs in the hen laying bins that you will find in the kitchen and bathroom, now serving as shelving. Although it hasn't been a chicken house in more than 60 years, it served in recent years as a farm parts and machine shop.

With a vision to preserve all of its original character, we cleaned it out in January 2020 and began repurposing and utilizing all of the original wood, chicken feeders, hen laying bins, and floor. The metal kitchen cabinets are from our grandmother's old farm kitchen, including the beautiful farm sink. They were lovingly sanded to remove all the rust, and repainted. You will love it!

Guest access
As you will be staying in the entire house, guests can access any part of the house. The grounds are wonderful so feel free to roam and explore.

If you bring along kids, they can safely go in the creek and catch crawdads (with parents of course!), go on a hike, run around the farm, ride on the merry-go-round, use the swing set behind the main house, check out the horses in the pasture, and have a grand 'ol time.

The place is still evolving and hope to have real chickens on the property in the future.

Other things to note
Wifi is shared with the main house and data comes through satellite. Please download movies in advance and save to your computer devices. I grew up on the family farm, and moved back in 2018 after working, living, and traveling on all 7 continents. I'm a proud global citizen. I love the outdoors, swimming, bicycling, and hiking/recreating in the great outdoors. Taking care and being a good steward of land, our world and its people are important to me. Learning languages, experiencing international cuisine, understanding how other cultures interact makes me realize just how similar we all are in this world. As host of my parent's beautiful property, where they farmed for more than 62 years, I value history, preservation of old farm artifacts, antiques, and sharing our beautiful setting with others. Your privacy will be respected and you will be most welcome. An appreciation of music, art, and animals makes me sing. Cats have a special paw print on my heart and you will find Toffee, Cocoa, and Calico hanging out around the farm.
