Laid-back Stay on the Shipwreck Coast

Our first impressions of No. 4 Daysy Hill cottage were the little boardwalk leading to the front step, the rambling cottage garden hugging it and the black stained façade framing the front door. The golden setting sun seemed to make the place glow. We meandered along that little bridge, unlocked the door and stepped into a private, cosy retreat for just the four of us.

Inside was a homely, rustic interior with the same golden, setting sun streaming in through the windows. The focus was the vista straight ahead, the green hills and the tranquil plodding of cattle in the distance. There was locally made caramel fudge in the fridge and a basket of firewood ready to go. We felt instantly at home.

We took the opportunity to stroll around the property before sundown. We discovered a pond full of hungry fish, eager for the fish food bucket to clang. A firepit ready for the autumn evening, and some gorgeous picnic spots with tables looking out over the stunning grassy vistas.

The encompassing warmth of the stay extended to the nautical village of Port Campbell, where we felt embraced by the atmospheric locals and hearty food on offer. It was a perfect blanket against the windswept ruggedness of the shipwreck coast.
