So Close, So Far Away

Charming, cozy and well-stocked for any adventure, we found the Chico Bay Inn a perfect home base for exploring the Olympic Peninsulas' rocky coastline and temperate rainforests. Given the Inn’s available kayaks, hot tub, dual fire pits and surplus of beachfront to wander, one could be perfectly happy spending their whole visit on site. That said, we were in awe of the lush landscapes as we hiked to nearby Dickerson Falls and strolled around Scenic Beach Park.

Even with wet weather and low visibility, the rainforest views and stone-cold beaches offer a moody, low-contrast beauty that’s unlike anything elsewhere. That, and a hot tub is even more fun in the rain. Maybe most importantly, the Inn felt comfortably private.

We were able to cook in the courtyard and soak in the spa without disruption or distraction, which made the escape feel that much more intimate.

Even in wet and overcast weather, the rainforest views on the hike to Dickerson Falls were lush and colorful. At nearby Scenic Beach Park, the walk was moodier and low-contrast, with huge rocks and ancient tree trunks lining the shore. The Emel House at the park is one of the area's oldest homesteads, and it's still beautifully preserved.

Warm up and take in the view with our own private firepit by the water!

There were plenty of brunch options at the Gig Harbor and we were glad to have picked Netshed No. 9, which made a mean chicken and waffles.
