Rural Treehouse Hideaway
Adventure in Port Angeles, Peninsulas, WA, US
After the scenic drive through the Olympic Peninsula, our energy was on the verge of depletion, that is until we were greeted by a fluffy band of excited pets, ready to welcome us to Pear Tree Farm. Toby, an energetic corgi, was celebrating his 5th birthday when we arrived, so he was already on cloud nine. His older brother, the 12-year-old corgi Max, and his feline sister Masha waited back by our hosts with more subdued excitement, but even they couldn't resist getting some belly rubs.
Jim and Adrienne gave us the full tour right away, including time to cuddle with their baby goats and sheep, getting to bottle-feed their newest lamb Lambo was one of the greatest ways I have ever woken up and we got to explore the rest of their expansive farm.
The treehouse itself sits near the back of the farm, about 10 feet off the ground, accessible via a well-lit ramp. The space is cozy and comfortable and fits about 4 people, with one bed in the centre of the room and another conveniently folded and stowed in the linen closet. The kitchenette and bathroom were perfectly sized for our small group, and the wraparound deck made the breakfasts Jim and Adrienne made for us all the more magical.

Downtown Port Angeles is a picturesque seaside gathering of shops and restaurants, so when we wandered down to find a spot for dinner there were no shortages.
A PA local recommended Hook & Line to us as a new, fun seafood place, and we were, mind the pun, hooked.
The bar that stretched along the back wall was any cocktail fanatic's dream, and the open kitchen up front gave the place a classy yet modern feel.

At first, the Coffee Box looks like any standard coffee shop, with a unique fitness theme, as it's attached to a fitness centre. However, when you follow the wooden steps to the second level, you find the coffee box: a lofted seating area with panoramic windows and a birdseye view down into the shop.
The Feiro Marine Life Center is a small building right in front of the Hollywood Beach Pier, and for the low price of $6, you can immerse yourself in the sea life that thrives in Port Angeles.
We got to touch sea stars, get 'hugged' by sea urchins, and learn all about the ecosystem of the town around us.

The walk up the three or four flights of stairs on the massive blue lookout rewards you with a view of Port Angeles, as well as the Strait of Juan de Fuca. If you look down to the pier below, you may see sea stars or moon jellyfish!
No PNW trip is complete without a local spirit tasting, and Harbinger Winery was perfectly located on our trip. Kelley, one of the Harbinger staff who has been there for over a decade, made our tasting not only fulfilling but fun as she told us about the evolution of Harbinger's bottling technology and encouraged us as we attempted to swish the wine around in the glass.
The $10 tasting gives you six different wines, and Robert and I were pleasantly shocked to find that we came out of it with new favourites varietals!

Robert and I are avid bowlers, and we wanted to challenge ourselves to try out our skills on new lanes. Laurel Lanes was lively immediately when we entered on our first night, so much so that we had to reserve a lane for the next day, which is something to keep in mind. The 'Bucket of Beer', neon bowling, and new friends we made in the neighbouring lane made this a classic bowling experience, although I was too enamoured by the lights to get more than two strikes.
We made our way through the gorgeously antique buildings to Siren's Pub, which overlooked the water and the ferry port, and enjoyed local spirits, crab cakes, and calamari.
