A Special Place to Nestle

Upon arriving at The Red Hill Nest, the first thing to greet us was the fresh country air. Then, after that first invigorating breath, our eyes were treated to picturesque rural landscapes, a handful of curious cows and the loveliest hosts imaginable.

Our accommodation felt like a home away from home, only much, much better. It was the most special place to nestle for the weekend, to rest and reset. This was the embodiment of authentic country charm. Not to mention, it was full of thoughtful personal touches throughout – which was exactly what we had been craving for our escape.

We made the most of misty mornings, greeting grazing cattle from across from the lawns as they joined us for our first sips of coffee, while afternoons were spent curled up on the comfortable couch with a good book.

We tucked into fresh, locally grown tomatoes, sourdough bread baked only moments ago, and the most beautiful, locally curated charcuterie board with matching wine. To end our nights, we sat by the fire roasting marshmallows and staring at the sky as the stars twinkled overhead.

Located only 15 minutes from Bathurst and 30 minutes from Lithgow, it was an idyllic place to escape to for the weekend; to go off-grid, without actually going off-grid.

Whether you’re into cows (memorable mention to Rosie) or just relaxing in the peacefulness of the country, this inviting spot is for you. We guarantee you will leave feeling refreshed and wanting to nestle back here again as soon as you can.

On our trip to Bathurst, we discovered what the locals have deemed 'the best coffee in town', and they weren't lying. Locals line up in the freezing cold winter just to get a cup of their coffee. Despite being a hole in the wall-styled cafe, there are some seats outside - and when too busy, Machettie Park is across the road.

I found myself coming back here a few times for my usual oat milk mocha. I'd highly recommend this place if you're a coffee enthusiast.

Machettie Park is in the heart of Bathurst, and despite being a country town, this park surprised me. Not only is it full of multiple variations of flowers, and statuesque buildings, but you can also watch the ducks swim in the park's pond.

With an added bonus, within Machettie Park, is the Begonia House Fernery, which houses an array of statues and plants within a magnificent glass greenhouse.

Being a natural motorsport enthusiast myself, a trip to Mount Panorama is a must when you're in Bathurst. Both for the scenic views from the top, but also to experience the track from behind your very own wheel (at the legal speed, of course).

What better way to end a day than to tuck into the most beautiful locally-curated charcuterie board with matching wine, provided by our phenomenal hosts. Local cheeses, figs, olives, smoked chorizo, home-grown tomatoes and matching wines from Winburndale Winery and Vineyards. We were left full of food and gratitude - highly recommend.
What better way to officially switch off from the usual hustle and bustle of city life than to spend the evening under the twinkling stars and curled up by a fit pit to burn marshmallows.

Being such an enthusiast for art, and the way that an individual's story and passion is patiently curated into their work - had me visiting the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, in the heart of town. It's worth mentioning that the art gallery has had a fairly new and impressive upgrade through renovations and is definitely worth adding to the list.
