A Charming Cottage with Soul
Adventure in Trentham, Macedon Ranges, VIC, AU
The drive up to Trentham from Naarm (Melbourne) was stunningly scenic, and only took about an hour. As the weather forecast claimed today was the only day with no rain, we decided to visit beautiful Trentham Falls before we headed to the Estate. Surrounded by a luscious landscape, the falls were easily accessed via a short walk. Time stood still for a little while here.
After a four-minute drive to the Estate, we were greeted by a driveway filled with trees and golden autumn leaves. We opened the door to the cottage and fell even more in love. We can only describe this as a rich sensory experience. Warm and cosy sensations ignited by the smoky fireplace that filled the body and soul, cool and crusty sounds of the leaves rustling though the trees relaxing the mind, beautiful textiles and works of art capturing and nurturing our attention. We instantly felt at home.
As creatives, we were inspired by our lovely host Lynda’s impeccable styling and care at every corner. Needless to say, we enjoyed long relaxing baths, tea on the veranda on moody foggy mornings, all-day lounging by the wood heater and picnics in the gardens. The best part of this escape was that you didn’t need to go far to have your own little adventure.
We stumbled upon some lovely cafes, restaurants and boutique stores in Trentham town, which was only a short stroll away from the cottage, but if you wanted to explore Daylesford, it's only 20 minutes away.
If you are looking for a quiet but soulful escape in any season, we cannot recommend this property enough, and we have to admit that autumn at the Estate was pretty special. They say autumn is the season that teaches us that change is beautiful, so embrace it.

It was a scenic drive to beautiful Trentham Falls, which was surrounded by a lush landscape. The viewing area was an easy short walk from the car park. At the time of writing, there was no access to the base of the falls due to unstable cliffs, but it was still a gorgeous view and well worth checking out.
We had a lovely little picnic in the gardens of the Estate Trentham. It was too pretty not to sit outside! The harvest garden has fresh herbs, leaves and vegetables for you to pick during your stay at the Estate. To be surrounded by the lovely trees and a bed of autumn leaves was just magical.
At RedBeard – a historic bakery in Trentham town – they bake organic, authentic sourdough in a 19th-century wood-fired Scotch oven. Try the sausage rolls too, so crispy and freshly baked.
Trentham General has a locals' night and is open for dinner every Thursday. We recommend calling prior to book your spot. We had a romantic dinner for two by the fire, with the chicken liver parfait with red onion jam as an entree, and the apple rhubarb and coconut crumble for dessert – both were divine.
If you’re a collector and lover of all things vintage, Daylesford is definitely the place to visit. We recommend going to the Daylesford Bazaar on Vincent Street (our absolute favourite) and the Mill markets for endless aisles of unique finds. You're bound to walk out with a few treasures.
Cliffy's is the perfect brunch spot in Daylesford. Their philosophy is ‘We support the producers’ and you’ll find timber shelves full of gorgeous local produce and preserves, perfect for gifting too. We sat under the verandah and grapevines, sipped on coffee and chai, and really enjoyed the laksa eggs – a must-try!
