A Cosy, Autumnal Cabin in the Southern Highlands
Adventure in Bundanoon, Country NSW, NSW, AU
The chic and cosy Country Escape is a dream stay, especially in cooler weather with a roaring fireplace and red wine aplenty. An eclectic yet stylishly curated space, the cottage is full to the brim with bookshelves and outside the window there were leaves of all shades of yellow and gold. After an easy drive from Sydney, soaking up the views of the lush, rain-kissed countryside along the way, my best friend and I set the general theme for the next two days by pouring ourselves a vino, getting the fire going, and settling into our chic surrounds.
While it rained for most of our stay, there were plenty of gorgeous historical towns nearby to explore, as well as cosy pubs and wineries to hide out in. Our Country Escape cottage was perfectly set up for our snug reading sessions and wines by the fire, which allowed us to make the most of the rainy mood.
Bundanoon is the gateway to Morton National Park, making the cottage the perfect spot for getting into nature and exploring all the nearby waterfalls and bush walks, which we snuck in whenever the rain held off. There's no shortage of great places to eat, grab a coffee, or a glass of local vino; a morning brew at the Exeter General Store, a long lunch at the Press Shop after wandering around the huge antique store nearby, or wine and nibbles at one of the many local wineries or pubs all go down a treat.

Things We Did
- Café
- Waterfall
- Winery
Great coffee, a delicious menu and a wall full of second-hand books that are perfect to peruse as you sip your coffee. The general store section of the cafe has a great range of delicious local goods. Exeter itself is a gorgeous town; one of the most architecturally adorable churches I've ever seen sits here, or on a sunny day you can watch the locals play at the croquet club.
A beautiful bushwalk in Morton National Park, the Erith Coal Mine Trail takes you to the old coal mine openings (no longer open, of course) and a stunning waterfall. Hop over the streams and make your way down to the bottom of the waterfall for a spot where the fairies must live.
A beautiful pink-hued pub that has recently had a great renovation, Briar's is exactly what you want from a watering hole on a rainy afternoon; fireplaces roaring and a cosy spot to have a glass of local vino, or perhaps a mulled wine. On sunny days, the umbrellas are up and you can sit outside and watch people playing on the giant chessboard.
