Switch Off and Reconnect in the Red Woods Cabin
Adventure in Big Omaha, Auckland, NZ
Perched on the edge of Sharyn's Big Omaha property, with sweeping views of iconic northland countryside and ocean, this cabin is equipped with all the essentials for an unforgettable off-grid escape.
Despite inconsistent weather, we were able to get out, explore and fill our days with hiking, eating and art. We chose the Leigh Harbour Walkway, which was only a 13-minute drive from the cabin. Starting at the boat ramp on Hauraki Road, we took the bush track and followed the ocean’s edge, where we were pleasantly surprised by a pod of dolphins!
We spent several hours exploring the local Sculptureum – just a seven-minute drive from the cabin – where we experienced a world-class collection of art. There's an indoor gallery as well as sculpture gardens, so there’s always something to do no matter the weather. Our lovely guide, Inna, told us that you can get hugely discounted tickets by booking online for Monday to Wednesday entry.
If you're after quality, wholesome food while you are out and about, there are plenty of options around. We drove to The Farmer's Daughter for coffee and lunch in between activities, as we had heard great things, and it didn't disappoint. A roadside cafe by day and a thriving seaside restaurant by night, it has a focus on sustainability and you can even walk through the veggie gardens where your food has been freshly sourced from.
There is plenty to do in the area and we're excited to return in the warmer months to have a different experience yet again!...
