Home Away from Home

There is absolutely nothing better than unwinding in a cosy home with good friends after a long week. I couldn't think of anywhere better than Bluegum Cottage.

We spent the morning driving from Brunswick, stopping over at Split Point Lookout to take in the sea air and seal watching. The weather was cold, but we braved it for the amazing view over the bay.

As we pulled into the King Parrot Cottages and found our way to Bluegum Cottage, we realised how far away from the city life we really were. The first thing we noticed was the silence, we were at peace, and ready to get the fire going. With literal bags of marshmallows in hand, we stacked the firepit outside, poured ourselves a cheeky wine, grabbed the outside blankets the Hosts had generously kept at the property for us, and got comfy, ready for a night in to chat and plan the days ahead.

The mornings brought us a beautiful fog that filled the surrounding mountainside, and the crispy fresh morning air made my coffee even better. The bedrooms are massive and have extremely comfortable beds, so we all slept so well. After cooking up a storm in the massive kitchen, we explored the vast property. With so much to do, such as a games room, friendly livestock to visit, a pool and a kid's play area, we then decided to jump in the car took a scenic drive to The Store to stock up on groceries, grab a coffee, and a bottle of locally made Gin while we were there. Afterwards, we decided to head into Apollo Bay to grab a bite to eat and relax at the beach.

Our second night in was just like the first, cooking up hearty meals together, sitting by the firepit, having wine, and enjoying the massive space that surrounds our property. We felt completely secluded, cosy and fulfilled.

This accommodation is a must for anyone in the area. I cannot wait to create new memories here again.

The massive property is home to some friendly furry friends. Two horses, two alpacas and two donkeys live on property just a few hundred metres away, and are always up for a pat. If you get here early enough, you'll catch a beautiful fog that engulfs the horizon.

A great lookout to grab some fresh ocean air froth over the rock formations as the waves crash over them. A must in the area. Spot a few seals if you are lucky.

If you are needing to head to and from the area from the Mornington side of town, or you just want a great spot to stop off, have some local seafood and view the area from the lookout, Queenscliff Wharf is your destination. We took the ferry home from here, and we were even able to take our car with us.

One of my favourite things about being away from the city is the beautiful landscapes you will see on your drive. The whole area is filled with large trees that surround each winding road. It's such a captivating sight, so take it all in.
