Relax in the Countryside at Kookaburra Cottage

With a modern design, warm fire and an atmosphere conducive to friendship and beers, the Kookaburra Cottage is the perfect place to reunite with your nearest and dearest or escape the city for a romantic getaway. I stayed there for the weekend with my partner and a friend who was visiting us from Queensland. This place was exactly what we were looking for: somewhere we could relax, enjoy some good food and time together, and explore the countryside.

Located in Raglan, about two hours from Melbourne, Kookaburra Cottage is warm and cosy and its host, Greg, will make you feel right at home. The cottage includes two bedrooms with ensuite, a fully furnished kitchen and a lounge. There is also a terrace with a table and an outdoor chimney that will keep you warm in winter.

Enjoy a glass of wine near the outdoor chimney on the terrace, go for a bushwalk around the property to reach the unique meditation temple and head off to make epic memories around the Pyrenees region. Many walking tracks can be found around nearby Mount Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park Surrounded by nature, you’ll feel rested and at peace after a stay there. Nothing else than the sounds of the kookaburra, the breeze and the two cute alpacas walking around. If you're lucky, you may even spot some wallabies.

Need a quick lunch stop on your way back? Make sure you grab lunch at this lovely cafe in the heart of Ballarat. Coffees and meals were excellent.

We wandered around Ballarat to discover this old, gold-rush town and its iconic architecture. Lydiard Street is renowned for having the best-preserved Victorian streetscapes outside of England. We also visited the Art Gallery of Ballarat, which is Australia’s oldest and largest regional gallery.
