Getaway Amongst the Gum Trees
Adventure in Halls Gap, Grampians, VIC, AU
We couldn’t speak more highly of our stay at the DULC Mountain View Cabin. From the moment we entered the property, we were completely enchanted with not only its architecture, but also how it beautifully aligns with the surrounding area.
About a three-hour drive from Melbourne, the DULC Mountain View Cabin has been designed to fit right into its environment while still providing everything you need for a cosy weekend away. With an open-plan layout and ceiling-to-floor windows, the cabin is abundant with natural light, not only throughout the house, but also in the impressively designed glass-top bathroom where you can shower under the stars.
The cabin itself houses all the amenities you need without compromising on design. You expect a fully functional kitchen, espresso machine, gas log fire, king-size bed, barbecue and complete with an outdoor spa bath to take a load off after a long day of exploring the Grampians. All of these amenities are complimented by rough-sawn timber and polished concrete throughout the cabin, providing an organic link back to your surroundings.
After a peaceful night's rest (in the most comfortable bed imaginable), our first day in the nearby Grampians National Park saw us head out to MacKenzie Falls. Only about 30 minutes drive from the cabin, the gorgeous MacKenzie Falls is one of the largest waterfalls in Victoria. Standing about 60-metres tall, the hike down to the falls is two-kilometres return, but be aware that there are 260-something narrow steps that make it a little strenuous on the way back up. We then stopped off at the local recreation reserve for a bite to eat and to watch the local kangaroos frolic in their mob. To cap off the day, we retired to the cabin with a bottle of local wine and enjoyed the outdoor spa and watching the sun set into the night.
Our final day at DULC saw us venture out for a Halls Gap breakfast at the local Livefast Café. Just a five-minute drive from the cabin, this cafe provided us with great service and the fuel we needed to tackle the famous Pinnacle Hike. The Pinnacle Lookout is accessible via a variety of hiking routes near Halls Gap, but we opted for the Wonderland Trail. Only about 10 minutes from DULC, this trail is a five-kilometre return hike, and though it’s one of the shorter routes to the Pinnacle, be aware that some sections can prove to be a little strenuous (but it’s all worth it to get to the top). The panoramic views from the lookout were second to none, from Halls Gap one way to Lake Bellfield the other – we couldn’t have found a better way to spend our final day in the Grampians.
The DULC Cabins are only a stone's throw from Halls Gap and provided us with the prefect base to venture into the Grampians National Park. We absolutely loved our stay at the Mountain View Cabin and Janene was the perfect host. She accommodated all of our needs throughout our stay and we couldn’t recommend DULC higher for your next trip to the Grampians!
