Serene Forest Bathing at Nature Domes

It felt like we were the only ones there, looking over endless foothills into the distance of the hinterland from our geodesic abode. Nature domes is a unique accommodation that blends seamlessly into its environment. Resembling an observatory by the forest, it is the perfect place to view the starry night sky, far away from the city lights.

There's such a beauty in being amongst the wilderness while having modern creature comforts of your own private bathroom with a rainfall shower, a fridge to stow supplies and plenty of room for all your things. The outdoor hot tub was luxurious and cleverly heated by wood fire. On a clear night, we'd spot the moon and stars while being tucked underneath the sheets of a comfortable bed.

One night we get the fire pit going and roasted ourselves a rustic dinner. On another night the weather rolled in and we retreated to using the gas stove indoors. It was great to have so many cooking options. We enjoyed a cup of tea as we watched and waited for the storm to pass by. We appreciated the thoughtful touches that made off-grid living so comfortable. You can simply switch off, relax and recharge.

We could only hear the pleasant sounds of the running water from the creek below, the mountain breeze and bird songs in the distance. We'd spot the occasional farm animal that came by - horses, alpacas, miniature goats..

Tom's creek road is a beautiful drive in the country that feels a world away with river crossings, valley views and lots of curious cows as you drive past dairy farms. There are also waterfalls you can trek and explore in the area. If you'd prefer indulging in the 'beauty of doing nothing', there are plenty of features on the property to enjoy. Nature domes are really one of the most beautiful and wholesome off-grid, off-the-beaten-path, treasures of Port Macquarie's hinterland region.

Rawson Falls walk is in Boorganna Nature Reserve, you can trek your way down to the base of a 40m waterfall and find a deep, tranquil plunge pool at the bottom. You can spot interesting fungi, bird life, and lots of hanging vines as you venture through the dense rainforest.

Bring your boots and pack some water. Does get quite muddy after some rain!
