Farm Retreat in Walla Walla
Adventure in Waitsburg, Wine Country, WA, US
Close to the Oregon border and on the Southeastern side of Washington, you will find Walla, Walla - a beautiful smaller city in the heart of Washington wine country. The drive to get there itself is also beautiful, with iconic landmark stops along the way, such as the Palouse Falls and Steptoe Butte.
It had been a number of years since I had visited the area and was pleasantly surprised with how much it's grown and everything that it has to offer. You can visit the many wineries, dining establishments and walk through the shops downtown. There is a little bit of something for everyone here, even for the kids.
The stay was at a restored farmhouse and was about 15 minutes to Walla Walla. The house is set in picturesque countryside and offers a quiet escape from the city while offering all of the amenities you would need. Most everything has recently been restored and if you chat with the friendly host Cheryl, she will fill you in on the family history of this place, which is quite interesting! Make sure that you go out on the patio at night to stargaze, while enjoying a glass of local wine! The stars were outstanding since you are far away from any light pollution.
While in the area, we stopped at Steptoe Butte, a favourite scenic destination that offers panoramic views of the patchwork farmlands of Eastern Washington - a beautiful place to be at sunrise or sunset!
We also enjoyed dining at a few of the local establishments, many offering of course locally made wine, small bites and cheese plates.
