Warming Up in the Woods
Adventure in Stanley, High Country, VIC, AU
After a long wet moody day, it was so welcoming to enter the Stanley Cabin with a roaring fire, local sourdough crumpets and honey offered by our welcoming host.
The Stanley Cabin is a stylish cabin where every detail was thought through. This cabin is the perfect definition of coziness and relaxation, from the comfortable beds, the softness of linen sheets to the warmth of the fireplace. Located on a hill, nestled amongst the trees, it provides a relaxing green place to share quality time with your family; something that feels innately needed.
We enjoyed a relaxing evening, indulging in nibbles and a glass of wine while talking and laughing beside the warm fire. The next day, the kids decided to sleep in, letting us have time to just slow down, soak in a bubbly bath, and enjoy a steaming mug in our hands while watching the local wildlife bouncing in the rain.
When the rain eased, we explored Beechworth, its heritage architecture, market, vintage shops, and breweries. We took a short stroll from the town to the beautiful Lake Sambell to enjoy the last hours of sun. When we returned to the cabin, we loved cooking a warm and copious meal all together and just spent time reading the great books the cabin had, such as Futuresteading by Jade Miles who runs Black Barn Farm (just 15min walk from the cabin). After this well-deserved relaxing time, we were ready for some cross-country adventure on the alpine slopes.

Lake Sambell is a short stroll from the centre of Beechworth. It provided the perfect picturesque place to explore, play stone skipping, and enjoy the last hours of sun. In summer, it is an ideal place to set up a picnic or enjoy water activities.
Beechworth is called Australia's finest historic gold-mining town for a reason! We could have spent hours wandering in its picturesque streets, admiring its architecture and the lovely boutiques.
We particularly liked getting roasted chestnuts from the Saturday Farmer's Market (1st Saturday of every month); reminding us of our childhood winters in Europe.

The 5-acre property is surrounded by gum trees and bushland and is a haven for native birds and wildlife watching. We loved wandering around and spotting koalas and king parrots or just observing from the warmth of the cabin the kangaroos skipping in the rain.

Between two drops, I enjoyed a yoga session rocked by the soft music of the wind and the birds. There is a yoga mat for you to use in the cabin.
Billson brewery is one of the oldest continuing breweries, established in 1865 in Beechworth. We specifically liked their red ale and the originality of the duck rillette cigars. New styles of beers are to come in November 2022.
