Luxury and Seclusion Behind Bells Beach

Nestled between a grove of native trees and the rugged coastline of Bells Beach, we found Mike’s rustic country barn tucked away in the heart of Bellbrae.

Reminiscent of a cottage farm stay, the cosy, sophisticated and polished barn house comes with exposed wooden beams, an outdoor sauna, a bath and fireplace, as well as a spectacularly spacious master bedroom with fresh towels and blankets.

We were excited to discover that fresh fruit and farm-fresh eggs from Mike’s chicken coop had been provided for us. We were able to enjoy a peaceful breakfast outside while admiring the routine visits of Bellbrae’s cockatoos, rosellas, galahs, silkie chickens and kangaroos.

We were lucky enough to have access to two superstar electric mountain bikes which made easy work of the hilly terrain around Bellbrae. We took the bikes down to Bells Beach then into Torquay along the Surf Coast Walk, – a very easy path that took around half an hour. Mike did let us know that there are plentiful trails in the bush around the property, which we will definitely be trying next time....

Despite the winter chills coming through, and neither of us having a wetsuit, we decided to check out Point Addis Beach. We were too scared to jump in the water but the views down the Great Ocean Road were great, while watching the surfers was very interesting....

After our morning adventures we were craving a coffee break. We found GROW cafe, a vegetarian cafe and deli ten minutes away from Point Addis Lookout, which was filled with handmade ceramics, organic bulk foods and produce, artisanal jewellery and, of course, delicious coffee....

We were pretty parched after a day of adventuring, so we dropped into Bombora’s pop-up beach bar in Torquay. We enjoyed a refreshing, ice-cold beer and a glass of pinot noir while watching the sunset and listening to live music. Even better, we witnessed a beautiful rainbow overlooking Fishermans Beach....
