Unwind in the Hinterland

After a day enjoying The Pass, Byron Bay's popular surf break, we ventured into Byron's Hinterland. Driving the winding roads through The Pocket's hills at golden hour, we arrived at Hilltop Artist Cottage to see the afternoon sun lighting up the surrounding hinterland. We immediately ran a bath and spent the afternoon listening to the birds sing into the sunset. That night we started up the fireplace, opened a bottle then dined in and enjoyed the crackle of the fire burning.

The next morning, we woke slow and enjoyed a coffee on the deck, again listening to the beautiful bird sounds around us. This time, we looked over the farmlands to ocean views, then hit the outdoor gym and practised some yoga and meditation. Our day's adventure was a rainforest walk and swim at Killen Falls and a stop in at Mullumbimby Chocolate Shop for a sweet treat. Coming back to the cottage really felt like a home away from home, a peaceful contrast to Byron's beach culture.

The Cottage has so much to offer, decked out with artworks by Craig Ruddy – an Archibald Prize-winning artist – which draw you to every corner in amazement. The kitchen is well equipped, the bedroom and bathroom are spacious and very comfortable, and the cottage is perfect for anyone wanting to reconnect to nature, slow down and rejuvenate!

Killen Falls is in Tintenbar, a short scenic drive off the highway. The viewing platform is a 660-metre return walk and the base of the falls is a one-kilometre return walk from the car park area. It's a great spot to stop for a swim and picnic!...

The old-fashioned chocolate shop has been a part of the community for over 20 years, serving chocolates, lollies, liquorice, gelato and sorbet! It was a fun, nostalgic experience....
