Our Country Retreat

Leaving late on a Thursday evening, we drove deep into the middle of the night towards the coast to reach our destination, Yambuk. We arrived at midnight and settled ourselves straight into bed, eager to know what we would see in the light of a new day. Of course we were completely swept off our feet when daylight broke and we became aware of our surroundings - a cosy homestead nestled amongst the most luscious green farmlands, with sounds of a roaring ocean close by.

Lake View felt like a home away from home. It had the most thoughtful and considered touches throughout - an array of quirky and marvellous art to indulge in, nostalgic games sitting neatly next to countless good reads for your entertainment and a big fireplace in the heart of the home to keep us warm during the cold Winter days. Waking at sunrise to watch the morning light filter through the sunroom, with a coffee in hand and a view of the wind turbines in the distance quickly became my new favourite morning routine.

We filled our evenings watching the sun set on the horizon of the ocean and reflections of the sky bounce off Lake Yambuk, which was all within a stone throw of our accomodation.

It was absolutely magical.

On the way to Port Fairy we stopped at The Grags, a place that is part of the traditional homelands of the indigenous Peek Wurrung speakers and has spiritual connections with Deen Maar.
