Cozy Cabin Seaside Getaway

One early Saturday morning, during the last autumn days of the year, we embarked on an exciting weekend getaway to a charming seaside cabin along the Great Ocean Road. Accompanied by my partner and visiting parents, we arrived at the Blue Wren cabin, nestled in the picturesque ‘Boomerangs' property in Johanna. Upon driving into the property, surrounded by lush greenery, we knew we were in for a special few days.

The cozy wooden interior and stunning views of the gardens and beyond to the ocean, left us in awe. With a ready-to-go fireplace, our first afternoon was spent relaxing, and enjoying the soft rain-kissed light filtering through the cabin's floor-to-ceiling glass windows. A delicious early dinner, board games by the warmth of the crackling fire, and a restful night sleep set the stage for the next days adventures.

The following day, Hashem and I enjoyed a morning stroll on the property, meeting Blue the friendly Border Collie and Mark, the owner of the property. Chats with lovely Mark, a tour of the property, and the fresh garlic he gave us for breakfast added to our joy. Before returning to the cabin for breakfast, we picked some fresh produce from the communal garden to cook with. A beautiful breakfast together with my parents and coffee on the veranda, watching birds dance on the dewy grass, was a beautiful start to the day.

As the sun broke through the clouds, we decided to head out for some sightseeing. We visited the majestic Californian Redwoods, where I made some coffee, and then we did a short but steep hike to the nearby stunning Hopetoun Falls. Our adventurous day ended with a mesmerizing sunset at the Twelve Apostles before heading back to the cabin.

The next morning, I indulged in a relaxing bubble bath after which we had a quick breakfast all together before checking out and beginning our journey back to Melbourne. Along the way, we stopped at Teddy's Lookout in Lorne which provided stunning Great Ocean Road views. Refreshed, rejuvenated and content, we headed home, cherishing the memories from our cozy retreat.

One of the best waterfalls in the area is the incredible Hopetoun Falls, especially after it has rained a lot. This short but steep hike takes you down to the waterfall where you can bask in all its glory!

This gorgeous forest is well worth the visit, especially on a sunny day when the sunshine filters through the tall trees and creates magical beams. There is also a beautiful creek running through which makes the forest even more tranquil!!

There is a beautiful communal garden at the Boomerangs which Mark and Roz have put a lot of love and care into - and you are encouraged to pick your own vegetables and fruits to eat!
