Under the spell of Nightcap Exchange
Adventure in Doon Doon, North Coast, NSW, AU
If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind experience, then look no further than Nightcap Exchange! This magical property (also knowns as the Zombie House) is a quaint homestead, meets a funky mid-century art house, meets a magical bohemian farmland!
Once we arrived at the secluded space, we were graced with Ballz - the 4-year-old steer that loves cuddles and thinks he’s a dog. Then, we witnessed the three horses, a peacock and the dogs. All of this whilst surrounded by the most lush green property and mountains you've ever seen - we felt like we were in Jurassic Park!
On our first night, we explored the property listening to kookaburras and playing with the farm animals as the sun went down. As we headed inside, we were graced with the numerous idiosyncrasies that gave the house its spunk - think of collections of 1970 architecture books, an archive of vinyl from Saturday Night Fever to The Police, and artisanal and locally sourced produce. We were able to drink wine, sit in front of a roaring indoor fire and truly unwind.
We spend the following days exploring the farm, visiting the small charming town of Nimbin and driving to cascading waterfalls. This special place will refill your cup, provide you with the time to spend quality time with those you love, and reconnect you back to nature.

Things We Did
- Farm
- Waterfall
- Café
Exploring the property of Nightcap Exchange was one of the most special, nourishing and grounding experiences we had during our stay in Doon Doon. You'd swear you were in Jurassic park, surrounded by mountainous rocks, boulders, horses, goats, dogs, a beautiful steer called Ballz, and a peacock (you read correctly). You'll want to spend plenty of time with them, and it'll be reciprocated! The animals will want plenty of kisses and cuddles, so make sure you're an animal person!
We decided to visit Hanging Rock Falls, here you will find a stunning deep emerald swimming basin, robust rocks hugging the basin and beautiful vegetation. A lovely quiet spot to ponder and appreciate nature's beauty.
Known as the cannabis capital of Australia, here you'll find plenty of Mary Jane's treats amongst beautiful flora and fauna. If that's not your thing, you can also find quirky apothecaries, jewelers and cafes in the small town of Nimbin, we decided to take a break and have lunch at The Feast cafe to rest our feet. Here we had outstanding falafel pita wraps the size of your head and were well and truly impressed by the quality and the cost. Come with an empty stomach!
