Hilltop Haven

We set out on our adventure - a short 80min drive from the city through quaint country roads and green pastures. The serene countryside washed away thoughts of the bustling city. We enjoyed refreshments in the picturesque town of Romsey before exploring the colourful pink clay cliffs in the historic gold mining town of Heathcote.

As we snaked our way up the winding driveway through a green field, we really felt a wonderful sense of awe and solitude. Wilka Luxury Eco Hut sits grandly upon a hilltop in an isolated rural setting, a prominent feature on the landscape. The home is made from beautiful materials, the recycled wooden bench top and bathroom details fit wonderfully within the setting. We enjoyed cooking on the webber and wine by the outdoor firepit as the sun was setting, the friendly horse came to say hello.

Talk about morning bliss! We woke early to cold frosty morning, soaking up the stunning views of the valley through the floor to ceiling windows from our cosy bed. Yugo stoked the indoor fire, and we wandered onto the deck. We melted into the luxurious hot tub, perfectly positioned to watch the golden sun rise over the rolling green hills. There are few things that compare to special moments like these.

Our quest for coffee led us to a charming Tonka Truck in Heathcote, where a friendly local not only served us exceptional brews, but also introduced us to Black Hill Reserve. This natural gem offered invigorating hikes and the chance to explore colossal granite boulders and magnificent views from the lookout point.

Our rural getaway at Wilka Luxury Eco Hut was relaxing and rejuvenating, providing a tranquil escape that allowed us to cherish the simplicity and beauty of nature.

They're good, really good! Light, puffy, buttery, quality filling and hearty in size. Up there with the best pie we've ever eaten in Australia. Situated next to the pub, you can wet your whistle in the lovely outdoor setting and even take home some locally brewed beer or homemade reserves.

We stopped in Heathcote at the Tonka Food Truck. Great ethos and even better food and drink. They offer epic toasties and quality coffee, definitely worth a pitstop!
